Yes, lets all call Al Gore.  But, now he calls it climate change not global warming. He is a moron anyway.
Here in Oklahoma we had the worst snow in our history. We got over 20 inches at our place and may get more by this Wednesday. By the weekend they are predicting 55 degrees. I say bring on the warm weather. Blofish and the Viper are all safe and warm under their covers in our nice warm shop.
Brad,
You mentioned you repair snow blowers.  We want to buy a couple of snow blowers. What snow blowers would you recommend? I know our record snow fall is not normal but we have been getting more and more snow the last few years so we want one that will handle at least 15" or more. What would you recommend?  Thanks
Pink Ice

Hi Pink Ice,
I'd suggest either the red Craftsman( not the gray one!) or a Murray  . Around here the box stores ( Lowes, Home Depot)  sell John deer and Ariens. I'd stay away from them. They are over engineered , too many moving parts that need constant maintenance. When you need parts for these you HAVE to go to a JD dealer .
Stay away from Honda too for the same reason. Honda is worse as getting parts takes 2-3 weeks and they are 4x the price!
People get carried away with snow blowers....it just blowes snow, you don't need a "Ferrari" to blow snow.
Another big thing is look for a known engine manufacturer, (Briggs and Stratton or Tecumseh). If no one claims to making it....it's Chinese crap! If it has a steel gas tank RUN AWAY pretty good chance it's made in China and you can't get ANY parts when something/anything breaks down.
Hope that helps?
Brad

The company I work for uses Toro snowblowers. I do not know the details on them, but they always start, rarely break down and get the snow gone.

:woo:  36 degrees today and yesterday!  Snow starting to melt!  Spend 3 hours outside chipping away at 1.5" thick ice.  I can see my driveway again!!!!  :woohoo:

I have a Home Depot special, MTD deal.  Cheap snow blower but it does the job.  I always make sure before the first start of the season to lube everything, change the oil.  Maintenence is a big thing with anything mechanical.  I've had it for 10 years now and does well.  Hard to find parts though...was doing the neighbors sidewalk and hit a couple newspapers, snapped both belts!  :faint:

Phil, the belts have numbers either painted or branded into their sides. I finally figured out to go to a industrial supply house and they'll match the #'s and length for much less than the dealer. A spare isn't a bad idea, because if you're like me, it'll kak right in the middle of the job. Got an old, big 31" Sears with a chink engine-13hp @ Princess for less than $300. So far, so good, touch wood (my head).

West Palm? I'm in south Miami not far from Homestead speedway. My wifes father is in town from Huntsville (actually nearby Athens) with his wife (my stepmom). Theyre here in the RV for a month or two because she cant stand the cold weather up there, and wouldnt you know it, she didnt want to go to a nice beachside restaurant tonight because she thought is was going to be too cold! 70 DEGREES!!

Dont mean to be mean here. Really! But just thought I'd post a recent picture from the local watering hole for you snowbound guys and girls to enjoy. Especially for the sublime/limelight fans:

PS
what youre looking at in the background is downtown Miami on the left (7 miles), and Miami Beach in the farther distance on the right, with South Beach the extreme right (10 miles as the crow flies). This spot is used by those kiteboard guys. Maybe one day I'll get some shots with them flying by in the background. That would make a good calendar shot.

Thanks everyone for the tips on snow blowers.  We are looking at the Toros. We also looked on the internet at the JD's and Honda.  We have Honda and JD dealers really close by. You are right about the JD and Honda being more expensive. We do not want to buy junk. We are expecting another 8" to 10" on snow tonight and tomorrow. I wish we had our snow blower now. Of course everyone is out of stock on snow blowers, shovels, generators etc. Thanks again

I'd gladly take any snow your willing to send my way. While we've had one of the coldest winters in some time, we've also had one of the driest. Only 8" of snow so far this winter. Normally we're around 24". We are getting soem pretty radical temp changes though. It was -15 a few days ago, its going to be 60 this weekend.

Your welcome to come and take some of mine.
We got about 10 inch's.  3 foot of snow blew inbetween my garage and rear door.
Blew all the snow off the grass.
The winds have been crazy.
--25 degrees yesterday.  --17 the day before that.  Supposed to be 50 this Saturday.

Supposedly, Oklahoma and Arkansas got like 2 feet of snow last night.

Just got off the phone with the folks up at Lake Almanor. Located near Mt. Lassen.
Sister Volcano near Mt. Shasta.

4 feet fell over the last 2 days and still coming down. They're snowed in, with no power. Roads are closed everywhere.

I asked her to send me some pictures. It's really beautiful up there in the Sierras when there's snow.

It was 55degs here yesterday! Beautiful day/sunny warm! Today Blizzard conditions, roads closed, power outages! Yuck! I had to drive my work van( with a generator) to my Dad's as he has a sump pump and his basement was close to flooding as he had no power. I was a popular guy there till the power came back on!  :grinyes:
