Hedman 78038 Elite Hedders
« on: January 09, 2011 - 10:41:14 PM »
I recently installed a set of Hedman 78038 Elite hedders on the Challenger. I'm impressed! They clear the steering box by about an inch. Clears the torsion bar by about the same amount and about a half inch clearance to the starter. Not a single dent required on either the driver's or passenger side hedder.  :2thumbs:

Have you run the engine yet? Mine leaked because they were held up on the head casting at the top of the header flange. I had to grind down the head casting some and double gasket it to get it to seal. :pullinghair: Yours sure fit 10x better than mine did!

No, I haven't run the engine yet. I need to cut the older style flange off the exhaust system and weld on the ball socket type. I hope I don't have a leak at the head. I scraped it and then smoothed it with scotch-brite so I'm hoping for a good seal.

Those Headman's look pretty good.  You know I have read lots of posts on headers and all the problems people have with fit when buying inexpensive units.  Agreed they are all a PITA to some degree, but why cause such major grief by buying cheap headers?  Some pics show pipes necked down so much it totally defeats the point of installing the header.  :screwy: I have installed two sets of TTi headers on my cars (BB B-Body and BB E-Body) that both fit like a glove and have had no leaks.  Yes, they are expensive and I've been lucky to be able to afford them, but it's worth saving a little longer if you can reduce your stress level.  :2cents:

Ive got the same on my 71 440 barracuda.   Good fit, no harder to get them in than any old chvies Ive had, and I have about 4-5000 miles on them,  no leaks

For you folks running NON STOCK heads.   Non stock heads tend to bring up fitment issues and chassis clearance issues
