72-74 with T/A hood & blacked out grille?
« on: January 12, 2011 - 01:22:19 PM »
Anyone have any pics of a 72 thru 74 with a T/A hood and Blacked out Header panel? I currently have a 73 Rallye All Yellow and am thinking about putting on the T/A Hood I have and blacking ou the Header panel. Also the bumper, Chrome, body color or Black? Let see what you have.

Thanks,
Gary

Brad thanks for the link,

and Tom thanks for all the pics, nice to different vantage pionts.

It looks good, the stripe package and call out fit well.

I will definetly be making the swap. I like the Chrome Bumper, I have a '73 so I will need to get rid of the 5mph rubber bumpers. Couple of things I may do different is to keep the chrome around the grille just to set it off and keep the fender trim body color.

Gary.

I'd have liked to keep the chrome on the grille but it was in tough shape so...  I'd also like to get the lower valence trim someday for it.

Thanks!

That does look good. I have a 73 and have been wondering what approach to take on the front also. I wonder how the black would look with  my Green go paint     :clueless:

instead of that big azz stick holding up the hood . take a tripp to the local wrecking yard and buy a prop rod from a car or truck that fits your needs .

It is a shower curtain rod. :drunk:

Tom

And Brad sent me some hood springs that work perfect.

I'd go back to the curtain rod hood prop but paint it black as well to match.

Just kidding. Car looks great! I love orange on these cars

I'm usually not a fan of blacking out the header panels but that car looks OK.  I guess if you are going to do it, think about masking off the sections at the front of the fenders and keeping those body color.  That's the main thing that looks "off" to me. :2cents:

I agree it looks off, I have seen some cars with the edges body color.  That always seemed off when You get up close to it and see the tape line go around the curve on the inside.  I think if my grill/header panel was in better shape to begin with I'd have done it the factory way.

I still got it.LOL  It was white and I bombed it satin black before my first trip to Carlisle.  I still use it when I have the hood up for long periods or it's windy out.  The T/A springs don't like wind. :2thumbs:

Did those hinge rods work? I use mine when working on the car or at shows.

I will be making up a set of those for this car. Years back I put a T/A hood on a 72 I had, I didn't know about the hinge rod so what I did was drill a 5/16 thru one leg of the forward hinge arm and into the hinge body in the open position. Then when i'd open the hood I just inserted A 5/16 pull pin.

Hey Brad, I've yet to add the holes needed to use them.  Maybe I'll work on that next weekend.  I haven't done very much this winter except realize I have a battery drain I need to correct.  I think it's the stereo/amp.

Thanks
Tom
My hinges for the 70 does have them though.FWIW
