Compressor muffler?

Just got my garage 60 amp subpanel installed today    and fired up my IR 60 gal compressor. Holy smokes, is it noisy. Ran it no-load for 30 minutes, and should get my hearing back sometime tomorrow.

Has anyone found/built an effective compressor intake muffler? I've found commercial units from McMaster-Carr that look promising. Also found a post on Usenet about an oil bath intake that the poster claims was very effective in quieting the compressor noise. But I'm interested in your experiences before I reinvent the wheel.

Seems like I was reading somewhere when I bought my IR compressor, that you can route a duct from the intake to quite them.  You would just route it outside or to another room and keep the filter on the end of the duct.

I have a basement crawlspace where I plan to pipe the intake. More isolated and cooler intake air. Still need some kind of muffler on it though. House is frame and siding, don't want to antagonize the neighbors too much.

Hey 72, here is a link for the right part, they are very reasonable, I use them on the blowdown vent on liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen tanks, they work sweeeeet!  Just click on the products and pneumatic muffler heaven!! :thumbs:
