440 water pump issue
« on: January 12, 2011 - 10:58:42 PM »
hey all,
happy new year!

i was looking at my two water pumps the other day (i have a proform electric pump that came with the motor, and a 440 source mechanical),
and noticed the impeller on the electric is totally different to the mechanical.

here's a couple of pics:

anyone have any experience with this?

i wish to run an electric pump, although i will carry the mechanical pump and the associated parts needed to swap it in when on road trips in case the electric pump dies.

any help would be greatly appreciated,
cheers!

The pump on the left looks like it's a reverse rotation pump. :clueless:

really? i thought the electric pump was the incorrect one...
guess i'll need to do some more research.

the electric pump is a proform unit, and only for big block mopars, so i guess it must work ok.
run it and see i guess...

Maybe one of them is a marine pump.  :dunno:

The curved impeller is similar to the edelbrock 440 pump, just a newer design impeller. Stock pumps have straight blades, A/C pumps can have more blades, 8 vs. 6 if I remember right.
