Chassis connectors
« on: January 15, 2011 - 09:22:19 PM »
Im going to weld in 50/50/3mm box between the 2 chassis points. The car is on stands level at the suspension points.
Would i be better to leave my motor in when i do this or could i take it out and have the same outcome?
I want to take the motor out to install the 440.
Any help appreciated

just make sure when you put the car on stands the doors are closed and body lines look the same. i put jack stands inder the suspension to mimic it being on the ground .
eather way it really dosent matter. just look at the body and lines before welding and make sure that the doors open and close corectly.

i put jack stands under the suspension to mimic it being on the ground .
:iagree:
I used box tubing for mine as well. I slit the floorpan and ran the tubing straight from the front cross member and cut open the rear frame and inserted the tubing into the rear frame. then welded the floor and frame to the box tubing. IMO, much stronger than the commercially available connectors. I have a hump in the back seat floor though...

Punisher,I went with the profile connectors they really look awesome once the car was done.It changed the car, stiffened the body feels more responsive looks like it is part of the under carriage. :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

if you get some 2x3 and some 1/8 plate lay it flat you will not have to go through the floor its a waste.

I fitted my connectors yesterday. 50*50*3.
It was really easy i thought.
I held the tube up against the floor, marked the length, marked the shape of the rear chassis line then cut it to suit.
I cut 25mm out of the tube,so i have 25mm hanging below the floor.
Once it was cut and i new it was right,i tacked the rear in place then using a jack, jacked the front up till it was just pass flush and tacked it in.
Both sides were tacked in then i fully welded it all up.
Rather than cutting into the floor this worked out pretty good.
There is a slight bulge in the rear floor but you wont notice it when the carpet is back in.
I was concerned about the ground clearance at first but when i think about the 3" exhaust that will be fitted it wont be a drama.
All this was done with the car on 4 stands and no motor.  :2thumbs:
