70 Cuda Tail Panel Question... ?

On the tail panel, beneath the lower molding, there is a small gap above the bumper that is visible. What color should that be? I have seen restorations where is is the body color & I have also seen it painted black... ?

Here is a shot of my Cuda before restoration, virtually untouched at this point. You can see that not only was the panel below the trim painted black but there is also some black to the right of the trim. I have not seen that on any other Cuda. The factory didn't seem to have much in the way of standards in those days...
