The missing engine
« on: November 26, 2004 - 05:22:55 PM »
Back in late 71 or 72, Chrysler engineers were working on a DOHC 426 Hemi. With the cancellation of the Hemi in the line  up for 72, only 2 of these experimental engines exist. I read this and I have seen the pictures of this engine(s). Do I have the article? No! I wish I did.I read this back in the eighties. This was an external belt driven DOHC engine.Alot of you are gonna say BS! But trust me on this! They really did have it. Post your whereabouts of who, what where and when.
Mike, Fremont, CA.

Last I heard was they thought the original casting were sent out to the scrapper and the blueprints were destroyed in some fire.I wouldnt think it would be cost prohibiting or impossible to re make today

One complete engine does still exist but has never run (yet). There has been questions as to how much of the 2nd engine is still around. Some of the blue prints still exist also but not all.

Is that the motor that was built solely to show to Bill France, in order to get all OHC engines, including the Ford 429, banned from NASCAR?
