Reverse stiff in 833

I had my 833 reebuilt by a good shop last year for my latest project, and like everyone else he's out of business.

The transmission seems fine other than it's pretty stiff going in and out of reverse, I've driven it about 500 yards so far. it's not the linkage or the shift arm rubbing the case I've checked that out it's internal.  is it possible to over tighten the reverse detent ball? and can I adjust that? if not I guess I'll have to live with it.

I assume it is the old style case with the separate nut for the detent ball & spring , if so you can rmove the plug & spring then use a magnet to remove the ball & see if ti shifts smoother that way . BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO REMOVE THE OUTER NUT OR THE BALL WILL DROP INSIDE & YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT IAPART TO GET IT OUT !
to anser the original question you could shim or stretch the spring to increase to load on the ball but ti would not make much difference

Mine is pretty stiff going into and out of reverse as well. One thing is for sure.....you won't accidentally get reverse when you are going for first. :smokin:
