Sounds like maybe I was just lucky reading through your responses so far.  Perhaps because I was running an automatic like you are it didn't twist the engine as violently against the mounts, but it was definitely putting out HP in the high 400's as it was as 'built' as they came back then.   And I'm probably going to add a strap or a pair of the locking insulators to my next build for the Bird.

Thanks for the pics. I was curious. I like the look of your final strap. Nice and clean.

I think they might have changed the design since then. The cutaway ones I have seen have two large interlocking plates and it is hard to picture that thing ripping apart without tons of raw force.

My brother busted brand new from NAPA stock drivers side mount in his 72 Demon with a stock 318. 
I have the Magnum Poly-Loc mounts in my car with about 575 lbs of torque and they are holding up fine.

Yes. I had a pair of those as well. Couldn't decide if I should fit both or just one to the drivers side.
In the end I never got around to fitting them because that Schumaker strut was offered to me at a good price so I used that instead.

I gave the solid mounts to a mate of mine for small change and I think he fitted just the drivers side.

I believe the secret behind Roppa's final solution would be the rubber isolator at the bottom. What this does is effectively prevents the motor from moving past the ultimate compression point of the isolator (where mount damage would occur) and therefore still prevents the motor mount from ripping. The rubber then prevents "shock" on the system when one floors it - that is where steel or bolts eventually let go. If you are a diehard 1320 racer then just use the solid steel mounts as already suggested in this link. This is going into my setup this spring if I can ever get out of my final house renos on a 12 year renovation. :2cents:

Correct 'Stroker. But they are poly bushes rather than rubber so do not "give" as much. Along with the stock engine mounts they do isolate the engine from the chassis very well while still limiting the amount of movement towards the right inner fender.

If it was a race car I would be using an engine plate rather than metal straps or solid mounts to be honest.
