The pedal goes "over-center" for the spring to pull off the bearing AND to help you push the clutch in. You just need it to pull your pedal back up. Light pressure is needed.  Hit pedal stuck to the floor because the spring chosen was too stiff. Just get a soft spring with big coils then open it up to have new hook ends.

You can see how I unbent a spring to match the application. All springs can be used this way. Find a bigger soft spring and get on it. Try the one you bought to make different lengths to try. If it is too stiff get a bigger diameter with thinner wire.

Maybe I don't completely understand how the over centre spring works, but I figure, ANY, spring in the stock location will assist in holding the pedal to the floor. Which is what you are trying to avoid with diaphragm clutches.
The over centre spring assisted in pushing the pedal to the floor. So...if diaphragm clutches have a problem with not coming back up off the floor.....any spring will make it worse..no?

Good evening dodj! I don't purport to 'know' for sure but, my understanding is that the OC spring serves the purpose of pulling the clutch pedal back up *away* from the floor.  The diaphragm I installed (McLeod) doesnkt have a problem coming off the floor so much as, simply not returning the l-a-s-t 1/2" to 1" into its full return up. In my case (as shelby dogg pointed out) that was enough to "rest" the fork on and cause the engagement of the throwout bearing, "all" the time.

Now, everyone (Mcleod, Centerforce, C-C members here) explained to me that I must remover the over center spring when I went diaphragm and C-P even explained to me how the diaphragm(s) will wind up over-centeredover center spring causes the clutch to stay "stuck" in the  down position -- when shifting at high rpm's.

For me, the challenge was finding a suitable spring that would go into that "stock" location. And stay there.

A lot of what I let "wrap me around the axle" in figuring this out was that long-g-g neck (or straight shaft) on the tock OC spring. I assumed I had to find something similar (and I may still have to).

In my circumstance ANY spring in (or to a point, even if only "close" to) the stock location assisted in returning the clutch pedal to its fullmost "return" or "up" position.

Clear as mud?

I will change my spring location which i believe will help hold it in the up position.

What do you think of this?

It's almost silent when the clutch is depressed and it doesn't rub much against the insulation. It brings it right to the top you just have to adjust the length of the spring and whammo!!! Now once I put the dash in I hope it doesn't block anything but at least it will give you an idea.

HP, I think you "nailed it", that's what I think. I just wish (would give anything) to have that portion of my under dash that clean, light and bright. H*ll, even with a light under there I can't even come close to that kind of visibility up under there so, kudos to you!

Based on your photo, I think I will still go ahead try finding one of those springs, locally.  :thumbsup:
