Semi new user w/pics
« on: November 27, 2004 - 09:42:15 PM »
Hi,

I have been "hanging" around the board for a little while and finally got a digital camera so I could post some pictures.  My car was originally a 318, but the previous owner starting cloning it into a T/A.  340 engine w/X-heads, auto, 8 3/4 rear end.  For some reason he also put in a SE rear window plug.

I would like some opinions on my latest project for the car, I'll post another thread if these pictures come through.

The louvers are actually what I want the opinion on.  My first car was a 72 Challenger that I put louvers on.  I just loved the way they looked.  I sold that car many years ago.  Now I want to put louvers on this car.  The set you see is a repo version, not original.  That is the problem, they just don't cut it, quality is poor, they cost me $1200, but I'm not happy so will probably send them back.

I'll post close ups of the problem to see if you agree.

i obvioulsy like them, or i wouldn't have asked.  :grinyes:

1200 for a repop set?  :ack: wow. jc whitney has a set, don't remember the price, but nothing like that. also remember it's jc whitney, so who knows what quality the are. have bought some real nice stuff, and some real junk from them.

as for an opinion, not on that car because of the s/e window. louvers are supposed to sit down on the window, not up on the body.
don't know if they ever made a set for the s/e or not.

Are you going to continue building the T/A?  Looks like you've got a great head start or are you going to strip that bad boy down to it's knickers and start fresh? Louvers? IMHO, I'd leave them off but each to there own mate.  ;)

I actually bought a set from JC whitney many years ago for the 72.  They were definitely junk then, metal was so thin they bent if you tried to lift from edge.  That's one of the things I like about the originals, very heavy gauge aluminum.

I will keep the T/A theme, but without the stripes.  I feel like I'm lying with it being a original 318 car.
Every single person that comes up to me asks if it's original and does it have the 6-pak?

Hey katfish

love the car ........... the louvers could go, alittle strange with the small rear window

Cool dodge  :patriot:

Maybe you could keep the stripes but loose the 340 sixpak emblems?

I don't care myself, looks great either way

Thanks 360,

I am going to get rid of the SE plug, can't see out of that thing.  Looking back that was 1 weird option, call it a special edition and make the window so small you can't see anything?

The louvers are just laying on the car for the pic.  I'll bolt them down once the right window is in place.

Id remove the fender stripe and get a plane strip to match the rest or have a custom A/T for automatic tranny and 340 4bbl (make the purist look twice and the novice to start new roomers of the Lime green 340 4bbl AT challenger) those are rare  ;D   , lose the window (what are those going for)
