I think I'm going to wait until I have the rear valance where I want as well.  If THAT looks as good as I think it will then I'll take back all the things I said.

OK, jumped the gun

After cutting the trunk extensions loose I was able to slide things around a bit but wherever I was working I would constantly find something else that didn't line up right or fit right.  I know that SOME working will be required, but something just didn't seem right.  The left side of the car (trunk extension and quarter) seemed to fit a lot closer.  I've been focusing on the right side and why it seems so goofy.  I test fit the valance and could visually see just by holding it up that it was running downhill from right to left...

After investigating further I realized that the right trunk extension seems to be 'shorter' than the left on the backhand side.  I took a picture and there is a full 1/2" difference from the top of the lip to the center of the top valance hole.  The right measurement is 3-1/2" and the right side is 4".  If I had that extra half in, all the holes that I've been fighting on the right where the quarter means the trunk extension would line up perfectly.

As I look at my own pictures; does it look like the right hand trunk extension is pulled inward? (thereby also pulling it up...?)

No; if you look closely and shoot a line across the top of the rear crossmember, you'll notice that the left extension is at least a 1/4' higher than the crossmember at it's outer end and the rt one is at least a 1/4' LOWER than the top of the crossmember! If you reposition the extensions to be at and in line-across with the upr lip of the crossmember, you'll gain the 1/2" difference you're measuring. Check it out. You're getting the idea though, if it doesn't fit-WHY doesn't it fit and go looking/measuring until you find it. I swear they must have had in-house AA meetings when they were building these cars!! Jimynick,  I thought that too!

If I measure from the top of the crossmember to the center of the hole it is about 2-1/2" on both sides (they match).  I should take off the trunk extensions and measure with them off the car to show what I mean.  The one trunk extension just appears to be 1/2" taller at the back (if that makes sense).

I understand why these guys were having in house AA meetings...  this is going to make me take up drinking!

Jon, I'd first fix the positioning of the small crossmember extensions before I moved the actual trunk floor extensions, i can see in the photo that the left crossmember extension is holding the floor up too high. On my car, from the factory, the rt trunk extension was 5/8-3/4" LOWER than the floor pan! Trying to come up with 2011 build standards on these cars is a cast iron *****. The wee extensions weld to the rear crossmember and the trunk extensions, so if you've stuck any part of those together, I'd recommend taking them apart until you get your fit. I just had to yank out the beautifully placed wheel houses on my left side to move the otr one up so that I could try to get a decent (for a Challenger) fit at the door. You're in a large club here laddie!

I'll give that a try.  I agree that the original extensions are sloppily welded on.  I can remove them from the equation altogether to see if I get a better fit and then add them back on.  Good suggestion.

I'll have time this weekend to work on this.  I'll post pictures with a comment on my progress.

Hi Jon, I ran into a similar situation with my 71 barracuda.  I am working on the drivers side, and with everything lined up, the trunk extension was too high.  I compared it to the original I removed and measured both.  The amd was 1/4" too tall in the back towards the side marker.  I had to remove the 1/4" and now everything fits much better.  Jamey

Hmmm... I don't know whether I feel better or worse that others are having the same problem as me.  I'm going out into the garage later today.  I'm going to take one more good look at it today and perhaps modify the extension if I need to reduce some of the height of the trunk extension.
