It all comes down to laziness.  Just look around and see how many people are still wearing tags on their hats and shoes.  Letting their pants fall around their knees.  My wifes grandpa (86) was just commenting on this yesterday.  Nobody has to work anymore he says, they all have desk jobs and pay everyone else to do the job for them.  Nobody has time to learn or teach anything about life and nobody has common sense anymore.

.... that grew up with free porn and anything else you can think of at their fingertips.

Sorry Jeff, could you please clarify what is at their fingertips when they are watching free porn?   :smilielol:  :roflsmiley:  :smilielol:

Completely agree with you though, bro.  Yes, I would want to give them a good slap but you now a days would get sued by the parents.  Years ago getting a slap was called discipline, now it's called child abuse.

Too much emphasis is put on praising the kid and not giving them constructive criticism because it might "hurt their feelings" or make them feel dum.  Well you know what?  If that happens we're going to be raising a generation of dumb assess...  :2cents:

FYI- theres an article in Time magazine out now about "Tiger Moms"  (Not to be confused with MILFs, cougars, etc.  :smilielol: )  It's a good, eye opening read about emphasis on education in the US and globally.  :2cents:

I had a room mate that I wasted a couple of hours with arguing the insanity of "Participant Trophies".  My point being that trophies for everyone dimishes the feeling of accomplishment and encourages kids to be non-competitive.  Her point was that it's painful as a parent to tell a child that they didn't win and they're "not good enough".

I think the corner that society is working itself into isn't meant to make the kids feel better, it's to make parenting "easier".

Super Blue i was just gonna commit on what Cooter was sayin but you said it for me  :grinyes: The kids today are taught they don't always have to agree or do what thier parents say or tell them and if they get yelled at or disaplined its the parents falt for being mean  :bricks1: I was taught for example if i wanted to drive my car to school my dad was more than willing to help fix it but I had watch and learn and get dirty righrt along with him. If i refused well it went something like this.. WALK  :grinyes: My dad was the most quite caring loving father there was but he had his way of getting his point across and it was his way and if i was too lazy to help or learn i was on my own. Alot of kids today are just plain LAZY and thats the way the world is letting them to beleive  :2cents:

:iagree: That is similiar to my experience. I'm trying to do the same but it doesn't seem to be working as well as I'd hoped. Oh well, try another angle... :violin:

That's pretty sad two different people couldn't help your daughter out with jumping her car...As for the generation thing, I can clearly see just how screwed the U.S. is/will be in the future (coming from someone who's in the 18-25 year old age bracket).  Has anyone ever watched the movie "Idiocracy" with Owen Wilson?  It may be a horribly scripted movie, but I still get a chuckle out of it 'cause it resembles what I'd expect this country to be like in the near future.

That said, does any of our European members want to adopt me? :dunno:  (seriously, though, I do have plans of living in Europe soon ;) ).

It's all about the parents.  We took away all electronics two days a week and you'd think someone shot them in the head at first...  after a while we actually started doing things together.  Amazing...

Soon they'll be out in the garage with me...  I'll figure out a way to make that happen.

That is one boring highway I have almost nodded off many times from New Bedford up to rt 9.North or south didn`t matter which way I was heading glad I don`t have to travel that way anymore!

As far as the youth of today my daughter and her friends are in the 17 to 20 age group and knew how to hookup my daughters car,but the other cars I guess had some funky type of setup where they just couldnt find the ground post and the owners of those cars were somewhere in their 30`s.So I guess there is hope for America after all!

It's just the same over here mate, no one can do anything themselves.  I was telling someone that I had to hot-wire my boiler on Christmas day morning or we would have had no heating over the holidays, and they couldn't believe that I had even attempted to fix it myself.  Then they were like "you're so lucky you can do things like that" and I thought what has luck got to do with it ?

On the jump starting a car and where is the negative terminal - my brother and I once got stuck with only one jump cable so we just moved the cars so the bumpers were touching (luckily they were both old motors with metal bumpers, one was a Rover but I can't remember the other).

Yes she does know how to jump start a car but didn`t know about just putting the ground to some metal on the car hopefully she knows don`t pick the fan for the ground might be time for a refresher course on this.I will have to get her one of those roadside kits thats was my fault, but she does have jumper cables now! The first guy gave them to her probably wouldn`t have done him any good  anyway he had no clue how to use em! :grinyes:

You don't have to use a ground to the body....Red to positive on both batteries and black to negative on both batteries....Been doing this crappy job for 40 years and yet some of you really think it has to be grounded to the body ???? Good grief.
