Fish,
did you modify your 73 bumper brackets to raise and suck in your bumper to do away with the rubber filler??

Hey Greg,
I modified the front bracket (just drill out a square hole where the old mount point used to be) and bought 70-72 rear brackets.  The front modification is documented in this thread (and others who knew more that I)

It looks a lot better this way.  :)

Same here...  in fact I think you told me about him (Steve?)...
He's a one man band and is kind of offline/online at times....
I really like the base I received.

Oh, ok, I thought the 72 rear brackets bolted to a different location on the actual bumper! I bought a spare set of 73 brackets to modify based on my thoughs, damn it. So definitely 72, brackets will bolt directly to a 73 bumper?

I had read conflicting things.  Some people said they had worked others didn't but it seemed this was being confused with the holes for the bumper guards... not what was needed for the bumper bracket.

take look at your rear bumper and compare to mine on this page...  maybe the holes in the bumper are in different spots?

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=74674.120

Also note that I removed the big heavy "sub-bumper" (?) that is probably what really stops anything that hits you...  that part did not fit the holes correctly IIRC...
Heck, I drove around with nerf-bars for protection on a speedster...  If you want safety, stick with the 73's bumperettes.   :)

Good luck!

Hey guys it has been a long time since there’s been an update on the Fish…

About a year ago the fish was diagnosed with a rot problem in the front left frame rail.  The rail was starting to collapse on itself…  quite a depressing turn of events!   Evidently this is a fairly common problem likely caused by battery acid getting into the rail.

At the time, my friend/mechanic Rory helped me understand my options…  from which I chose to buy a frame rail cap from SafeTCap and have him surgically repair the car.   Rory really knows his sh!t so I was very comfortable with that decision even though I knew he was not really looking forward to doing it.  Who would!  
It took some time to save up for the surgery and I decided to add a few other things to the list: frame connectors, hotchkiss leaf springs and 1.03” torsion bars, bilstein shocks, sound deadener and a new ACC carpet.

So… to the surgery…

The fish on the operating table…  the K member is out at this point… Rory has the engine supported by the brace from above.  Sad Fish!

The rot!  That hole is where the rear K member bolt hole should have been…

That bolt hole was here…  completely rotted out.

The rot is cut out & metal prepped for the cap…

Here Rory has plug welded and seam welded the cap on to what is left of the frame.

Welds cleaned up and primed… note the stop was put back in place.

Bad shot, but it’s done!  3 days of hard work on Rory’s part.

Oh by the way…  the steering box mount on the K frame was cracking off… maybe from K member flex from that back mount flapping?

I’ll post shots of the sound deadening install a little later…

Wow I'm surprised to see that in a CA car?  Common up in northern cars exposed to salt. Too bad you didn't get time to brace the k-frame. Firm feel has great pictures of what to do and even sell a kit I think.

Hey Brad  :)
I found the car in Arkansas...   :rebel:

not sure where it was before then.  I have more bracing to put on the car...  the under fender braces...  I'll look in to K frame bracing too.
Thanks for the tip.   :2thumbs:

I also forgot to mention...   discovered that my Weld wheels DragLites are warping...  this is going to be an expensive year...
