    Ha!  The trip was Simi Valley (Los Angeles) to Tucson...  Tucson to Phoenix then Las Vegas...  3 days in Vegas  :burnout:  and back home to Simi Valley.

    I think I’m going to start calling this my Semi-Pro Touring car…

    Remember, I’m not a metal fab guy… and I needed to find a way to make this work… quickly…
     
    I quite literally used a 2x4 on the inboard side of the seat.  The front hole on the seat rail goes right on through the 2x4 and uses the existing hole in the floor.  The back hole in the floor further secures the 2x4.  The back hole in the seat rail goes through the 2x4 but not through the floor.  It’s darn solid but the 2x4 will eventually be replaced with a metal riser.

    The outboard side is secured by a metal plate.  Two holes in the plate for the existing holes in the floor.  Two more holes in the plate secure the rails to the plate.  An elevator bolt secures the front rail and I put a ¾ inch support under the backend of the plate.  The floor angles down and the plate needed support.  The back bolt goes through the support as well.

    I talked to a few guys who used 2x4’s like this so I didn’t feel so bad doing it…  even though it’s really solid (and the seat belts are the originals secured to the floor) I will eventually replace the wood.  I used some large heavy washers to level out the seat and that was it.

    I’ll get some pictures together on this…

    Replaced my old thin plug wires with Jegs 8.5 mm wires and installed an MSD Blaster 2 coil from Summit.

    My youngest son was feeling helpful and really jumped into it! 



    I can really get a lot done with this kind of effort!


    The wires and coil in place...  FAST EFI exposed...   I went with Yellow to match the expected paint job... some day...


    More wires, EFI and Fuel regulator


    with air cleaner.. had to cut to resize the air filter.  It's 14x2 but was a little too big.  I stitched it back together so it wouldn't look like crap.


     


    Took the Fish out for a spin and it responded excellently!  I'm sure the spark is much better and the engine can breath better.  More responsive, more power.

    Did you use straight of 90 degree boots on the two rear sparkplugs on the driver side?

    Thanks Jason...  I ended up finding a 90 degree boot kit at Pep Boys and modified those two wires.  The Jegs wires say they are multi-angle but they really don't work out that way.

    As a follow-up to the coil and spark plug wire change...  the Fish REALLY seems to have liked that.  The car burns fuel better which has resolved most of the remaining fuel smell.  Acceleration and response are better too...  I should have done that a long time ago.  ;)

    I was fortunate to catch a serious fuel leak in my high pressure efi line before setting off for the Spring Fling out here a few weeks ago.  I thought I had it locked down but it "sprung" up again a day later.  The connection between the hardline and the hose was not going to last with just a clamp (it did for my 1500 mile trip thank god!)

    With parts delivered, I used a 37* flaring tool for the first time and got everything switched over to AN6 fittings and braided hose. 

    My first attempt at flaring the hose leaked...  I guess I didn't leave enough exposed length to get a good flare and seal.  The second attempt looks and feels much better.  I took the fish out after a number of tests and beat on it pretty good. 

    It was great to get the Fish back on the road!

    The connection on the lower left was leaking like "crazy"...  it had to go...



    Decided to replace this section too...


    FAST EZ EFI...  a great thing indeed!


    Ah...  my first flaring tool...  isn't that nice...

    Spent some time accessorizing  the Fish...

    I needed to drill holes in my '73 bumper to fit the '72 bumper guards.  The guard on the right has a bit of a space in the top against the bumper.  I think I need to flatten out the bumper itself a little to make the fit better.

    Also finally put the go-wing on the car.  I need to work on spacing the bolt supports between the upper and lower deck lid sheet metal a little differently.  I flattened out the top metal skin a bit.  Looks good though!

    ... I can feel the car squat at about 30 mph now...  ;)   ha!

    Messing with the AAR hood I bought a few months ago.  Still needs the restoration, but want to make sure it fits and looks good when on the car.

    Test fitting the hood after disconnecting/lowering the radiator.  Need to open up the holes in the hood hinge a little bit for clearance for the bolts.

    It sits up a little in the front but does push down flush...  maybe something else is in the way but more likely the hood just wants to sit like this.  Thinking of using the latch to pull ths down...  if I think the fiberglass is strong enough.
