fender mounted turn indicators
« on: November 28, 2004 - 08:38:40 PM »
I have a pair on my car that arent working. I pulled them off and one has a wire broke off and the other just doesn't work when I put power to it. The problem is I can't see how to get the bulbs out. My car is a 72 but am told these indicators on my car are for a 71? They are smooth on top and are bottom mounted via a stud. Anyhow, how does one get the bulb out? is the plastic lens supposed to be removable and the bulb twists out or ? The barrel has a knurled pattern making me think it should unscrew and the bulb should drop out. I have tried turning these and they arent unscrewing easily  :???:

Can anyone advise me here?

hmmm...ok, will do. So the knurled barrel should unscrew? So normally, the bulb is changed from inside the fender?

ok, after soaking for a week one of them unscrewed while the other twisted off - dammit  :madvibe:

I bought a pair of the correct year screw-mount ones and didn't realize how much BIGGER they are then the ones that were on the car when I got it. I think I would prefer to keep the smaller, stud-mount type indicators. They are smaller, less obtrusive, and just look cleaner on the body.

I need to find a base plate and barrel. Would also be nice to find a lens as one of mine are chipped. Can anyone identify these as to what year and/or model they came off of?

I am by no means an expert on this, but that sure looks like it came from a 70.

Those are 69-71. I just sold a set of 4 on e-bay for $25. They were nice and I only had 2 bidders? The 70 Cuda indicator is a little smaller and the lens is completely surrounded by the bezel. The 69-71's are open at the bottom edge and do not have an exterior mounting hole. Later indicators were mounted through the top rather than a mounting stud on the bottom. Jim

Hmmm....ok, These are listed as 71's but dont match mine. All the 72-74 are big ole honkers with a screw in the top. Any chance mine are from a Charger or Dart or?

Dont suppose you have any parts left that look like mine do you Jim? Could probably get by with just a base and barrel with electrical lead

Jim,
Thanks for clearing my always foggy mind. I didn't know that about the 69 and 71's. I just remembered the later years were mounted thru the top. Perhaps they finally realized what a pain it was to work on these guys. :madvibe:

Those are for a 70 Cuda. See how it has that extra lower surrounding edge. The difficult part would be in trying to find the internals for those indicators. I'm not sure if I have any more sitting around, but I will definitely check for you. Jim

cool, I appreciate any help on this. Just to be certain, those that are pictured last are a 71 example only and are not the ones I am looking for

So, Mike, you're looking for the 72-newer type with the screw hole through the top? Jim

I've got two on a 72 Dart if they are the same. Let me know if they will work and I we can work out a very cheap deal!

Hi Jim - am not wanting a set with the screw in the top as they are big ole' honkers. Am looking for a set (or parts) of a set identical to this:

(FYI -  its hard to tell from pics but these are about half as tall as the top screw-mount units)
