What backspace on stock rear suspension
« on: February 07, 2011 - 08:55:21 PM »
Im looking at getting some new rims/wheels for my 72 Cuda
What is a good backspace on a rear 18" rim
that will fit well with a stock rear suspension setup.
I want as much dish on the rear as possible with out having to change the rear suspension

max backspace is about 5.25".  For max dish/lip, you want as LITTLE backspace as possible, though.

for a 9" wide rim on a STOCK suspension you want either 5" (0 offset) or 5.25" (6mm offset).  More backspace and you'll rub the spring, less and you'll rub the quarter panel.  9" is about as wide as you can go before you need to start modifying things.  Max width would be about a 275/285 rim.

I run 275/40ZR17s on my Challenger, and I'm very close all around.  I run 0 offset.

Perfect just what I wanted to know.
Thanks so much for the info.
