I dont  understand why Hagerty is paying you ANYTHING.

If the truck hit you, shouldn't THEY be paying you?   :clueless:

:iagree: 100% with this. I did not have to go to my company at all. The other guys company was the ones I worked with. If the truck driver was found at fault, why is Hagerty even involved?

I've always gone through my own insurance company when I've been hit.  I contend that there is less stonewalling and delaying, plus it's good to have someone in your corner by having your own company dealing with it.  When everything was agreed upon at our end with Hagerty, they then subrogated and will get reimbursed from the trucking company's insurance.
My son is going directly through the truck's insurance for the medical side of the claim, but he hasn't submitted a bill to them yet, so we'll see how that goes.

Ok. That makes good sense now. Just make sure your rates don't go up as a result.

Just wanted to say I'm glad to see the Cuda going back together, made me sick to see it like that.

Haven't posted for a long while, so I thought it would at least be polite to check in.  The Cuda is going back together now.  Most of the hard stuff is done.  I had hoped that we'd be a lot farther along by now, but I had to leave it alone for a couple of months, so now I'm finally getting back to it.  AARcuda33 and AARuFast helped me with some measurements when I couldn't get the tail panel and trunk to fit each other.  The AMD panel didn't have enough arch to it; AMD sent me another--it was a better stamping, but it was still too flat along the top.  Finally ordered a generic one on Ebay from "rocparlic" in Mt. Clemens, MI.  It turned out to be a Goodmark/Sherman panel which fit a LOT better to the trunk lid.  Had to weld a couple of emblem holes shut, but very glad that I was finally able to resume putting the car back together after losing about three weeks on the tail panel fitment.  Put a door skin on after straightening (I thought) the door.  Turned out that the front contour of the door was off and so it wouldn't line up with the fender.
Speaking of the fender: I was one one of the faithful convinced that the AMD fenders were just a week or two away from reality.  When they failed to materialize, my buddy, Bob (4SpeedFish), found a Goodmark one on Ebay from Galeana Chrysler in S. Carolina.  They were great and immediately arranged shipment.  Well, FedEx nearly destroyed it (along with a crate engine Galeana was sending elsewhere).  Since there were no other fenders out there, I kept the beat-up one, got a price adjustment, and pounded out the dents.  Hung the fender, and that's when I saw that the door with door skin wasn't going to work.  Got a used door (at the Ohlone swap meet), got it sandblasted, fixed the rust-through holes on the bottom, and filled the 100+ dings. Put it on, and now have the driver's side about done.  The header panel got a little banged up too so I'll be working on that next.
Anyway, I appreciate all the supportive comments, help and advice I've received over these six months.  I'll post some more as the car slowly returns to its former condition.

I was an property and casualty insurance appraiser/claims adjuster for about 10 years.  You are the claimant not the insured.  The truck's insurance company has no vested interest in your claim other then settling it for the least amount of money they can.  YOU need to do your homework.  YOU need a GOOD estimate of what it is going to cost to repair the car, AND you need to know what the car was worth prior to the collision and also what it is worth now.  If the cost of repair plus the value of the car as it is now exceeds the value of the car prior to the collision it will be totaled, they will cut you a check and take the car. However you can request to "retain the salvage" in which case they will deduct the amount the estimated value of the salvage from the settlement check.  IMHO the car appears to be repairable although I can't see the other side of it to see if the right quarter panel is buckled or not.  I'm guessing about $7000.00

Not always the case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  On multiple occasions our insurance company has paid more to have the
vehicle fixed than what it was worth. The customer does have rights and if you invoke
your rights, you may prevail.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I'm guessing that if you went into the body shop business you'd have no trouble underbidding your competitors.

I was a body man from about 1972 to 1980, and things have changed a bit.  So what was the final estimate?
