Vinyl tops IMO, make me cringe when I see 'em..I can almost hear the rust bubbles forming under that vinyl now....IMO, they were a fad that I'm just sorry WAY too many cars suffered because of it...Nowadays, it seems those padded tops/vinyl and the like, are almost taboo because of the problems that stemmed from the originals...A BIG NO....

my car spent almost all its life in new england, and when the prior owner replaced the original vinyl about 10 years ago he said there was virtually no rust underneath. He also said the firewall had virtually no rust also, but I understand thats pretty rare in a new england car.

I took the vinyl off of mine.   I agree with the others .... looks cleaner without.   Not sure if this is urban myth, but from my understanding when they came out of the factory and the lead work where the roof joined the quarter was poor, they added the vinyl top.   So, in the interest of fast production, many cars ended up with the vinyl top.   Some cars do look fine with the vinyl, but in my humble opinion I like the clean lines of no vinyl top.

Cheers ..... CHAPS!!

I personally like the looks of a vinyl top... especially on a Challenger. But in your case I would keep it a hard top because....you will need to relocate all the welded studs and drill holes to mount the surround trim. Plus to do it right front and rear reveal molding and glass would have to be pulled.....Your car looks great as it is now...I would personally leave it alone.

My vote is to leave the car as it is. While I don't mind the vinyl tops, I prefer cudas and challengers without them.
