Exhaust hangers?
« on: February 15, 2011 - 11:34:30 AM »
Searched on line, can't find the exhaust hangers that have a plate inside the car, on the floor going up where the back seat bolt down.

Looking for a complete dual exhaust set.

I don't know what they are supposed to look like, a picture and source would be nice.

TTI has the complete set up, including all the hangers.
http://www.ttiexhaust.com/Exhaust-X/XhaustSystems.htm

TTI calls out a body bracket (attaches to unibody on underside of car) and hanger (attaches to the body bracket) for the location under the back seat.  They are in the lower right of this picture.

Check out Accurate Exhaust.  Here's the link. http://www.accurateltd.com/70-74-E-Body-Small-Block-318340360-Complete-Exhaust-Systems-_p_239.html

Scroll down to the bottom of the page.  There's a diagram of the exhaust system and all the hangers.   You can also look in the hanger section and find what you need.

I know Dales Cuda shop has some of those hangers as well.  THey might be cheaper.

I crawled under a 1970, 1973, and 1974 Challenger today.
The 1970 has never been touched/modified in the area where exhaust hangers might have been. It is a 383 car. It has some sort of stamped metal piece on the passenger side only. I can't see how that piece relates to an exhaust hanger,

The 1973-74 cars had no evidence of ever having any kind of factory exhaust hanger.

so I guess I will weld up all the holes from aftermarket rubber hangers, and place whatever hanger I need to get the job done.

72-74 used different hangers on the left and the right.  The drivers side used a two piece bracket that bolted to the floorpan.   One half of the hanger is visable from under the car and the other is visable on the inside behind the back seat.

The passengers side hanger is pretty funky looking.  It bolts to a small bracket that is welded to the shock X-member.  Single exhaust cars used the same passengers side bracket.  That is hanger D-768 that's listed on the Accurate Exhaust diagram.  Again...It bolts to a bracket that is welded to the shock X-member.  There is nothing on the floorpan on the passengers side.

Thanks, I was told the hangers were multiple piece units that went through the floor, similar in some way to what you see in the trunk from the inside for those hangers.  I have to look at the cross member.

Bought my driver's side bracket from MegaParts.  The passenger side was always welded on.

In 1970 it was...maybe 71 as well.  There was no hanger welded onto the floorpan in 72-74.

My mistake.   My 72 Cuda also had the welded bracket. It was probably an early build.  I haven't seen that funky bracket attached to the shock cross member, mentioned in the post above mine.
