Non rallye gauge cluster, could this work? look inside please
« on: February 16, 2011 - 02:11:52 PM »
I am in the process of trying to redo my dash, and gauge cluster.  It currently has a tach mounted on the steering column, which I personally do not like.  I dont want to hack the dash up, because honestly, I do not have the skill for that.  I found this speedo/tach combo for a harley, it is 5" and I believe that is the size of the speedo in my dash, right?  could this work in my gauge bezel?

Physically, it can be made to fit.  It will, however, probably not read correctly as it is set up for a 2 cylinder, not 8.  The speedo hook-up would be something else to check, too.

I like the idea but....

......I am thinking that that speedo is an electronically driven one whereas the ones in our rides is cable driven...so you would have to deal with that first.......

Also, not sure if that tach is specific to a the twin cylinder bike motor or if it can be switched to 8 cylinders....

But I do like the idea....

Not sure of the size....You would still have to hack the stock dash, behind the scenes a bit for it to work I would think.....??

Dang, never even thought about mechanical vs electrical, and that the tach is set up for a 2 cylinder.  I keep looking for gauges and nothing I actually like will fit our cars.  2 1/16 is the most common size and ours is 2 5/8 right?  frustrating.

I have a non ralleye dash. I purchased a restoration oil gauge that matches my other gauges. You can also get a tach instaed of the oil gauge. It fits where the clock would of gone on the far right of the dash.

I used gauges from these guys:    http://www.speedhut.com/gauge_products-auto-revolution.htm    The site has a pretty cool design feature  :2thumbs:    I have no problem hooking up the speedo either as the one I purchased uses  GPS .
I`m not sure if any of these will fit into an original dash though.

Why not run one for a "hot rod"? I certainly imagine they have speedo hookups, and its setup for a v8

Dutch, I really like the gauges speedhut has, thanks for the link.  What gauge cluster did you use if you didnt use the factory one?

I made my own cluster.
My first choice way classic instuments, but apart from being a tad expensive....  :1zhelp:    the replies to my e-mails seemed to take forever, and I don`t like that when I want to spend money like that...  :2cents:
