 :smilielol:

I used to be a Nascar fan....but I miss the "good old days" before the wine and cheese crowd ( ie. big money)took over the "sport" That and they somewhere along the way forgot it was STOCKcar racing? The cars look nothing like a "stock" car. At best...It's just a big IROC series now. :puke: :walkaway:
I still watch the Daytona 500 with an old friend that we have watched every year now for just over 20 years.
I'll watch Bristol and Talledega  if I'm not busy but that's about it?

If NASCAR's not interesting enough, try British Touring cars, or the Aussie's V8 Supercar series. DTM is also great viewing IMO.

It's a cold wet week end here so I'll be watching the Daytona this Sunday.

I remember when Dale Sr. wrecked. I was routing for him in that race. When he first wrecked, I was   :swear: at him. But then the mood suddenly changed. I'll never forget that race and the one also when Arton Senna crashed too. Michael Schumacher's only real competitor if he would've survived. Those guys were the legends.

I heard the new track it getting these drivers 5-10 mph faster than before so it might be a really good race event to watch this year.

What's telling is the few responses on this thread, a few years ago at least a dozen more detractors would have been jumping on the bash wagon, now most don't even bother.
The problem as I see it is not who the fans are, the owners, or even the drivers, it's the cars have been mandated to be to much the same add to that these restrictor plate tracks and it makes for hum drum until the inevitable big wreck. I watched the Bumble-Trucks run tonight & that was the highlight.
I'm disgusted after following the series one way or the other for 40+ years.

Ok who watched the truck race ?

What happened to the spoiler rule?

They used to check the height as the cars came off the track before allowing the win?....
 :villagers: :villagers: :villagers:

DW even shut Phil Parsons up for saying that on the broadcast!  :screwy:

I'm sorry but you seem to be under the mistaken impression that The Rulers apply the Rules Equally in NASCAR or anywhere else for that matter.........Boyer -0.06" NOT OK/ Waltrip - 18" OK     :smilielol:

I agree for the most part. My point is that BIG money has ruined the sport somewhat. With me the biggest factor in me not into it as much is that they don't even look like "stock" cars! I'm sick of looking at the front decal to see what brand it is! When Toyota came into it.....that was the final nail in the coffin for me! They just copy the best design features of a Chevy, Ford and Mopar and come up with an engine?? What the heck is that! Granted none of them use anything even close to regular production dimensionally anymore. I could live with the engine/drive train issue but man they gotta look like real cars! I couldn't care less if someone builds a better "mousetrap" When that happens then quit your whining , pull up your skirt and build a better one! That's what gave us cars like the Superbirds/Daytona Chargers, tallegega torino's, Charger 500's  Areocoupe Monte Carlo's/Grand prix's Supercoupe Thunderbirds! Now look at what we have now.... a bunch of "bubbles" all looking the same, cookie cutter cars! yuck!
I've said it before on here, is Nascar again missed the boat, in that everyone is dying for a Trans-Am series to be reborn! The could have made the Nationwide series into that! Called it whatever I don't care! We now have the Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro with everyone drooling over them.  Can you imagine the racing! Wow! I fit was up to me I'd run them on the smaller tracks and road courses. Keep them off the superspeedways. Give new live to Rockingham,Hickory etc..... Make it 50% road courses 50% ovals.
I'm a Nascar tech inspector( 21 years now) at my local short track and the same thing is happening there too! They keep screwing with the rules making the car faster...but more expensive to run therefore less racers are around! I've noticed a 7-10 year cycle...they go broke, start out again with cheaper cars then every years add more till they go broke again! Racers are there own worst enemy! When I try to hold them back...I'm the bad guy?
Nascar does the same thing on a much bigger scale....big money gets thrown at them they bend the rules and things get messed up...like we have now!
This the reason I love the Aussie V8 Supercars! Stock body panels! Sure the engine /drive train isn't stock but it's not "stupid" like it is now in Nascar!

Stock body panels would be a blast to watch on the speedways.
I loved watching the only Mopar in the field win last weekend at Daytona in the shootout.
But Road racing is my choice like the Aussie super cars.
Going to try for more Mosport and maybe Watkins this year, first stop is the Spring Fling at Willow Springs in April.

I think it is great to attend. You don't see all the race all the time, but the atmosphere of 'being there' more than makes up for it IMO. There's jumbo-trons too.  :2cents:

I agree nascars boring but whats left

At the risk of a heresy charge, I'd strongly suggest you check out Formula One.  Its definitely different for a viewer as the race is often between cars at different points on the track due to pit strategy, etc. and there isn't the constant passing like Nascar's current IROC formula where all cars are identical except for stickers and powerplants, but what is like old school Nascar is Competition!  They actually change the cars between virtually every race to get an advantage over the other teams.  If you enjoy cars & drivers that get better race to race for the entire season, then you ought to check it out.  I actually started watching several years ago after watching the old 60's movie Grand Prix (a great racing flick by the way) and was hooked from then on.  Like someone else already said, I watch the super speedways & bristol.  Sometimes the road courses, too. But otherwise its just gotten TOO BORING!!   :2cents:

I watch F1, German Touring cars, Aussie V8 Supercars,NHRA, about anything on wheels... F1 is the pits IMO, I'd have to say I  prefer IMSA to most.
