Jesus H Chrysler says hello!
« on: February 17, 2011 - 10:27:22 PM »
Hello all.  My name is Greg and I'm addicted to Challengers.  It's been about four months since my last drive in a Challenger....  Spring can't come soon enough!

The car I have here is the sixth Challenger I've owned (3 drivers, 3 parts cars)  In addition I've owned over 40 other Mopars over the past 20 years.  This is the only one I've kept.  I've had it for about 17 years and worked on it for the previous owner for 2 years before that.  When I bought it there was no sheet metal in front of the doors, a 318 that barely ran, a 904 tranny that slipped like crazy and a wiring harness that looked like it was constructed by a mad scientist.  Over the years I've pieced it together mostly out of used parts I've scavenged from swap meets and friends garages.  The hood (someone asked about it) is a repo glass T/A hood that I traded a pair of 73 Cuda fenders for.  The front header panel was found in a junkyard underneath a 66 Mustang (someone tucked it away for later?)  The 440/727 in it now is fresh out of a 75 Imperial I owned that was involved in a collision and I was unable to repair.

The car itself has a murky past.  I bought it locally off a friend who got it from another guy who got it from Arizona.  Seriously, that's all the history I have.  That and the fact that when I bought it there were Barracuda convertible rear interior panels in it.  It appears somewhere along the line someone salvaged a wrecked convertible and transferred all the goodies over to a decent hardtop and got this creation.  I don't doubt it came from Arizona since it's nearly rust free, which is near impossible to find here in MA.

As for future mods, I have a 440 I'm in the process of finishing.  20 overbore, Edelbrock heads, Mopar 509 cam and a vintage Weiand six pack tunnel ram intake.  I have a Keisler 5 speed conversion that will go in at the same time.

As far as the paint job goes, it's the finest rattle can job I could pull off.  I get bored and buy some cans and see what color looks good on it.  I think I've finally narrowed it down to either Detonator Yellow or Sublime.

Anyway, thanks for providing a great board to post on.  I've been lurking for a while and decided to join the fun.

Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

Welcome.
A spray can paint job sometimes qualifies on Ebay as a $15k paint job resto :stirpot:

Nice car. Interesting color combo. I can't say I've seen one around my area painted this way. I always had a thing for convertibles. Feel free to ask questions. We've got a great bunch of folks here. Without getting into a long discussion, but in all fairness to some of the folks here, you may want to change your user handle. Some folks might be offended by the use of the name of Jesus as you have chosen. This is a simple suggestion and done so in fairness and to keep peace! Thank you in advance for being respectful!

Thanks for the welcome folks!  In response to some questions/comments, Yes it has a top.  It's currently a white top but it's been heavily stained and Ive tried everything I can to clean it.  Even though it's in otherwise good shape I'll probably have to either dye it or replace it to make it presentable.  This is why I don't have any pics of it with the top up and try to only drive it on nice days.  The paint combo was done as a "what if" to see what a 2 tone Challenger would look like.  I found out later all I had to do was look up Chip Foose who did almost the same thing although not exactly to my taste.

In response to my choice of user name, it's not out of disrespect for any group or religion.  Its actually a kind of nickname I've had for years.  My friends both IRL and online have called me that for years since I've been the "go to guy" for Mopars in my circles.  I realize that nobody here knows me yet and some may think I'm just a punk here to stir up trouble.  I assure you that is far from the truth.  I'm just a local Mopar enthusiast looking to branch out into the bigger network of people.  If this board is highly religious or easily offended I'll be happy to move on.  It's your sandbox, I'm not going to come in and start kicking sand!

Anyway thanks for the welcome and I'm looking forward to getting to know you folks.

I vote you keep your name as it is and stick around. You are entitled to freedom of speech.

I had a question for you:
Did you convert the car into a contertible yourself?
What was involved? Any pics of the process on how you did it?

I'm sure many here would find that of interest on that if you did convert it.

Mike, Fremont, CA.

I find your user name extremely offensive. It's your choice. Free speech. I am not a religious person. I consider my faith not a religion, but a way of life. Chose your battles. It's your choice. I'm just letting you know how I feel. That is my right as well. I know  there  are others here that would find it offensive as well. I try to treat others in a maner as I myself would like to be treated. I may do something that offends someone and may not know it. Or I may do something that offends someone that I do know, and in that case I would try to make it right, unless it conflicts with my personal convictions. If I have offended your personal convictions I am sorry. I've been on this board for years. It's  a  great group of people from many walks of life and many would say it's more of a family. I hope  you can come to be a long time member here as well.  Just be respectful of all!
