1971 Convertible Molding
« on: February 18, 2011 - 04:27:34 PM »
Hey guys,

I need to get the monding that rests on the back of my 1971 challenger.  It was never with the car so I don't know what I'm looking for.  The e-bay listing says Challenger or Cuda but the seller isn't sure.  Were they the same?  Is this the piece I need?  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

I would think they were different.  The parts book shows both of them but does not give a part number.  They look different.  The Challenger molding looks thicker.

I was told the cuda's were shorter but I have no proof.

The challenger and cudas come in 3 sections and are stainless so the ones in that auction are not NOS and are missing the center section.

The pieces you want are definately Stainless steel and the correct ones will be waaayyyyyy more then $69 a pair. There are 5 pieces that go back there 2 curved ones that look like the ones in the ebay ad, a long slightly curved one that goes across the back, and 2 short pieces that go towards the front on each side (these 2 are reproduced).

I'm pretty sure that they are different too. My parts books (that were from the dealership) show different part numbers.

What parts book and what page.  I find the listing section number in mine and then it does not have a number.

Here's the book:

The Challenger diagram and part numbers are on pages 23-236 and 237

My parts book is one of the old blue huge hardcover books.  It is one of the first runs for 1970 and it has blanks where some part numbers should be.  I have the Challenger numbers.  I borrowed another book and looked up the pages you have to compare the two.  The Challenger and the Cuda have different part numbers.  So the parts are different.

Just found out that the guy is having them made somewhere.  He calls them "A RAW PRODUCT" and that they need to be polished or chromed.  I would love to know if they fit well or not?  I need a set and the cost for the original trim is out of this world.
