Miller 211 welder Wiring Question
« on: February 20, 2011 - 10:34:38 AM »
Hey guys I installing the 220V outlet for my Miller 211 welder.  I'm fairly certain that I should use 10/2 wire.  Am I good to go with that?  Thanks

Dave

#10 is good for 30amps. If you look at the plug attached to the welder it will have an amperage rating or check the manual and see what it requires for input current(not welding amps). Then size the wire accordingly.

:iagree:  But I might also suggest going to the next larger gauge wire if you plan on using a long cord. I made my cord 35 ft. long so I can roll my welder out of the shop and use it in the driveway if I need to.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Make sure you use three conductors! Some think the grounding conductor isn't important, but it sure is!

Thanks guys.  It's only wired 4 feet from the box in the garage, so I should be good.  Thanks for the confirmation.

Looks like Miller says it's 25A, so you're in the clear!

Just nitpicking, but... the ground is not referred to as a conductor. If you buy 14/2 cable, it will have 2 conductors and a ground for a total of three wires.
But I agree, the ground wire is THE MOST IMPORTANT connection you make. It is the one that can/will save your life in the case of an electrical fault.
