My pinion snubber hits the tunnel
« on: February 24, 2011 - 07:46:58 PM »
while just parked.
Noticed it only today crawling under to rewire my fuel pump.
It seems to be set at the lowest of 2 settings.
Heres an older picture from when it was jacked up.

How close is it to the floor board when the car is on the ground?  I run mine about an inch from the floor board.

That's weird? Maybe you will need to replace the rubber bumper with a shorter one? :clueless:

Or cut and redrill it lower.  Those are normarlly for use with super stock springs with much more travel.
Or you could just get  a factory pinion snubber.

there ya go. Although I cant see how tall that original type is, it sure looks at least 1-2" shorter than mine.
I didnt realize mine wasnt factory, but obviously mine is a different type. Made for high springs? Or maybe a non-dana car? :dunno:
I wonder if this thing clunking over every bump contributes to my harsh ride?
I'm surprised it hasnt broken. Its only 3 bolts holding it on.

I have the same one ( type) on my car too. I had to cut it to get it to sit lower too. I believe it's a Mopar adjustable? Not factory stock, but from Mopar

This pinion snubber will make your car ride harsh.  It is supposed to have travel.  You need higher springs or the stock snubber.  I don't know if it is your pic or not but one bolt looks cross threaded.

it could be cross threaded. I'll soon find out.
Just searched ebay (mopar dana pinion snubber) and found the dana 60 had 2 types. Mine is a late type (12/69) powr-lok 3.54 for a 1970 b-body.
I made an offer for it. There are several guys that seem to produce them, including a sox and martin type which looks like mine, but taller with more adjustment slots, and what looks like the front suspension bump stop on top.
Since my rubber stop is literally touching the tunnel right now in my garage, there is no travel at all!
I'm guessing the correct stop will buy me at least an inch to maybe 1.5" of clearance.

Here is a pinion snubber that is adjustable and I have one I would sell for 50 bucks.   It is pretty much brand new.
