front end weight
« on: February 25, 2011 - 08:22:19 PM »
Was wondering if anyone would have a ball park figure for the total weight for all of the following items : 400 engine stroked to 451,  alum heads,  alum intake,  alum water pump housing and alum pump, 727 automatic,  no power steering,  manual master cylinder,   mini starter,  headers,  typical altenator setup,  standard 26" radiator,  front mounted battery,  stock dual snorkel steel hood.  No engine/trans/ radiator/battery/hood in car now - a 1971 Challenger  I was thinking about adding this much weight to the k-frame area so I could tighted up new suspension parts and set ride height or is this not a realistic thing to do. It will be awhile before  engine/trans gets installed and it would be nice to have this suspension stuff set now. I realize this is asking allott. Thank you for any try or suggestions about this.

I re read your original post . My car has all the aluminum parts you mentioned except for the heads. Mine has power steering too. I wouldn't bother setting up the suspention now. I'd start gathering parts to rebuild it though! 1" or bigger torsion bars, GOOD shocks, bigger brakes, etc...? Depends if you want handling or a drag strip car, or just a cruiser?
