Billboards are sold without holes cut in them. I bought a black set for my Cuda. A black paint job is also planned. Challenger Gary had a vinyl sale a few years back.

Yes :iagree: ...The billboard decals I bought from PERFORMANCE CAR GRAPHICS do NOT have the holes pre-cut in them. :2cents:

If you want my opinion though..... :blah:

You're building a fairly "high end" , highly modified, pro touring custom. I think vinyl graphics, of any kind, will only "cheapen" the look. I like the idea of flat black billboards, but I would have custom ones painted on :2cents:

Nice work John, in for the hard yards now buddy, making that paint perfect. :2thumbs: Love the colour scheme you have worked out for it too :clapping:
Are you going to use a T rubber to finish off around the glass that you are flush fitting to the body ?

Ahhh. You know what they say about opinions ?   Lol   :stirpot:   I haven't ruled anything out on the stripes yet. I thought about having them painted on like you said Alan , I not too sure how well they can letter the Hemi part into the stripe where it looks correct. Since paint is a few months out I can research it some more. Thank you

I agree that painted stripes look better and won't wear like vinyl.  Then again, unless you plan to keep the car forever, vinyl has a big upside since buyers who prefer stripe delete or want a different stripe can always pull the vinyl off.  Once the paint goes on, you are stuck with that choice.

If you want painted stripes then have a stripe maker make a stencil. That way you have exactly the same shapes, including the letters, in paint instead of vinyl. I had ChallengerGary do that with a TA stripe for me.

:iagree: , but not only that....The car is such a cool custom, why put "stock" stripes on it.....with paint you could get pretty creative....like "ghost bill boards" that start with HEMI on the doors but flow into flames on the quaters... :smokin:

Allan, are you really advocating non-stock stripes, even for a modified car...well, I am...uh, no wait, I am not sure what is going on here!

Hey John,

You could do the billboards in black and have an underwater scene with Barracuda swimming in schools or attacking other fish or somethng along those lines in amongst a reef, you could get someone to paint it out in a pearl paint so it is all in Black also but has that ghosted look to it, real subtle but awesome at the same time. I have seen a hockey stick stripe done that way with a skeleton of a Barracuda in it before and it is a cool effect, but it was not a Black on Black car. This is becoming even more of an exciting build :cooldancing:

After a good phone conversation with Challenger Gary yesterday ,He told me the best way to paint the stripes on is to get a stencil kit for the doors and then tape the quarter stripes.. I like the idea of ghost stripes , I was planning hotrod black for the stripe color. I guess I need to spend some time matching the base coat color to some stripe colors to see how it looks. HemiKen You give me some good ideas.Again Thank you all for your suggestions , this is what makes this site so great....

Hi John, I agree to use a stencil for the door section, but you could ask Gary if he could cut you a template billboard (only need 1) to use as a master for each side of the car on each quarter out of a heavy paper or lite cardboard. You could put it in place with tape and trace around it with a chinagraph pencil to get it exactly the size and shape you will need. Then a simple masking up will give you what you need. :2thumbs:

I would like to hear what ideas you have after hearing our ideas buddy ? An underwater scene would be awesome in a ghosted effect  :cooldancing:

I am leaning towards a ghost type billboard painted on a slightly different shade of black (gives it a stealthy look),then clear over the stripe this eliminates the tape line. .

Just have them make a set of billboards, but don't cut them out of the sheet. Apply the whole sheet and remove the pieces that would normally be the stripe. Then you can paint the way you want and then pull off the stencil/vinyl and whoolahh.
Thanks , Keith
