I added a cowl bar today,As I plan on doing some hard cornering with it (autocross ect.)This will add considerable ridgity to the upper cowl area. Made 4 Plates 1/8 inch for reinforcment , the bar is made from .120 wall 1 1/2 DOM 1018 steel.  One of the thing you will notice is I had to remove the factory bracing by the windshield. I plan on either modifying them or replacing with new braces.I had to also modify the steering column support and dash frame for clearance. Please note if you make this modification to your car you wont be able to use the factory instrument cluster

wow !!

never seen a cowl bar like that. :clueless:    Do you plan to build a cage ?   If not, honestly I don't think it worth.  The unibody suffers torsional rigidity not radial or lateral.  If you want to better handle steady corners,  I would have spent more effort to traingulate the front and rear area suspension areas.   The firewall nd the dash frame makes very big job to stiff that area.

With cardboard as a template I made the lower supports for the roll bar loop. Using 1/8 thick plate I trianglated the rocker panel to the frame connector and the rear torque box area. With car level the seat in and roll bar mocked up temporary to get the position. I want to be able to use the rear door panels and rear window regulators so time spent here for careful positioning is a must. I am going to build the cage off the 1 3/4 .134 wall competition engeneering roll bar loop. With the seat installed the main loop is 6 inches from theback off the headrest.

I finished trimming the roll Bar today after check the hieght to the headliner. Then I took a measurment from the top of the bar to the rear frame rail. I ended up cutting into the back seat support area for the frame rail to main loop supports.After being happy about where I wanted the rear supports,  I  cut them and notched the ends. I sent them locally to be blasted and epoxy primed. I plan on a removable rear cossbrace and side bars When I get them back I will weld them in.

I drilled out all the spot welds and removed the Passenger side floor pan today, as ther were some major pin holes and felt it was best to replace the pan.  I can weld in the supports easier with this removed. The tunnel will be repaced after. I spent the rest of the day grinding the excess metal and cleaning up the frame.Coated the inside of the frame with rust bullet and all the mating surfaces with weld thru primer

Thank you for all the great comments. Not much to report other than i finished welding and smoothing welds on the Cowl seam, Engine compartment and the inner fender supports. I should be ready to install the Hemi engine to the T56 next.

With the Rear sump oil pan on. I moved onto installing the pilot bushing, Spec clutch disc , pressure plate. after indexing the belhousing and ajusting the hydraulic CSC for cushon ajustment I was then ready to install the transmission to the engine. I ran into 2 small problems. First was a clearance issue with the plate on the bell and a boss on the T56. I milled a a small hole (in the picture about 1 3/8 diameter and 3/16 deep. Now the plate fits flush. Then The CSC hose needed to be installed first before mounting the belhousing to the engine. To solve it ,After i installed the line to the CSC ,I just installed the belhousing to the transmission, than the tranny and bell to the motor.

Yeah,I agree. I was thinking the same today after I assembled it. I can change the position on the shifer location after I mount it in the car .
