Nice alternative to headers?

I hate headers! there, i said it. Headers suck. they leak, they are hard to install, and they are in the way.

Is there a manifold that flow better than a stock manifold but gets the clearance and ease of a stock manifold?

ebodies with big blocks and headers do not play nice together.
I get jealous sometimes of chevys and fords at the shows for that reason

yeah.. It really got to me last weekend when I did spark plugs on my Jeep Grand Wagoneer that has a AMC 360 with iron manifolds. Couldnt have been easier and made me wonder if headers are really worth it.

Think an E-body BB Car sucks, try a 505 C.I. stroker RB engine in an A-Body, with 2" primaries...

Oh and BTW: There's No "Easy button" here..No manifold will ever hold a candle to a set of headers. (Yes, even the coveted "HP" ones suck)..

By the good TTI headers if you aren't into any kind of maint. and be done...OR, I don't know why this hasn't been done more often here, but I cut the flange OFF the headers as soon as they come out the box and weld on a "bubble" flange, or run a band clamp..This TOTALLY stops the dreaded flange gasket blow out..

Yeah,And even tti's need massaging to fit. Had to beat on the 383/B body ones. maybe a shorty header? Not sure what you got going...  But there's loads of room with an RMS and a small block. :misbehaving:   My headers fall out!  Going custom stainless someday though...            Don't they repro the hi-po manifolds?    Just go over the frame  :cooldancing:

even the shortys dont fit. I had to crush two tubes to half size, one on each side. But, at least they are much easier to change plugs on than the full headers.
And the TTI's are the ones to get, but the engine still has to come up and off the mounts. Try that without some help and the right equipment. Argghhh  :eek7:
HPs are great (plug access and ease of install) but they dont look great, and not if horsepower is important to you. But I think they do help with low end torque?

i am beginning to care less about performance, and thinking if i'm not racing then who cares? Just put manifolds on it. Maybe have the Jet hot coated for looks or something.

My Hooker 5115's went in easy. Driver's side from the top and passenger side from the bottom...

Match up a gasket to see how your bolt holes line up. You may have to relieve them. I used long studs to hang the headers on as a couple of the tubes wrap around the bolts. Those have to go in first...if the header is tight to the head, you can't get those bolts in.

How is changing spark plugs and leaks? I dont want leaks and I dont want a tune up to take 9 hrs because I'm contorting myself in odd shapes getting to spark plugs.

The headers have a 3/8" flange...a little Permtex Copper and some lock-washers seem to keep the issues at bay.

Pretty sure that SB and BB tube configurations are similar because of the obstacles...power steering box, fenderwells, etc. being the same.

I would think BB spark plug access would be easier becuase you're under the tube, not beside it  :dunno:

I'd love to go to a new hemi, but the over all cost of converting is to much.
