    Need Help on a 440 Block Number

    I've got a 440 that on the block marking tab next to the distributor hold down clamp after the numbers 440 is the letter E.  Anyone know what the E stands for?  Anywhere I've found info. on block numbers it doesnt define what an E is for.

    I was under the assumption that the letter "E" stood for the model year of 1969 440...

    As there was no "A" designation..
    "B" = 1966 440
    "C" = 1967
    "D" = 1968
    "E" = 1969
    "F" = 1970
    "G" = 1971

    The "year code" comes before the engine size, the "E" that I 'm talking about is after the engine size.  Upon further research I found where the letter E after the 440 markings means cast crank.

    Correct , 440 E is a cast crank engine
