A beating I'll never forget !!!
« on: March 05, 2011 - 07:36:01 PM »
Now there are no MOPARS involved so I apologize if I am breaking any rules. It was 1983 and I had managed to ruin a 67 326 H.O. Firebird and a 2+2 428 H.O. Catalina to come up with a pretty fast 67 Firebird! I had my music turned WAY up to hear it over that 428 running only thrush mufflers straight off the headers, if I had been able to hear anything this story probably wouldn't have happened! I was sitting a stoplight when a 60's VW bug pulls up next to me. The driver catches my attention and gives me a hand signal to race him, I laugh and think what the hell to myself. The light goes green and that little red round car leaves me like I never let the clutch up! To make it worse he has made a big aluminum butterfly key (like what they used for very old wind up toys) that has a little electric motor making it slowly turn as he leaves me in his dust!
I had to see what was powering this car! He pulled into a gas station and I followed him in and he showed me that I had just been embarrassed by a bug sitting on a chopped Chevy II frame with a well a well running 327.
Note to self ! Don't over estimate any car!

I had to share this story as it still makes me laugh when I think about it!

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

I had something similar once with a Yugo. I was never able to catch up to the guy to figure out what he'd done to that Yugo body, but I'm pretty sure it was not a Yugo motor powering it.

Great stories! My son Nick has a stealth '84 Horizon that started out as a 2.2 carb'd auto and is now a 2.5 turbo'd 5 speed and the looks on the faces of the Mustang guys is a riot!

Great story, thanks for posting.
Think back to the year 1975.  At our local drag strip a guy had a VW bug with a highly modified Porsche engine in the back and 6 speed trany...ran 10's in the quarter.  Sounded like a electric starter motor hooked to an arc welder...just screamed thru the gears.
