So, I get a call last week from a young man named Tim. He asks me if I am intersted in purchasing a challenger.
His father is Dave, who I have tried numerous times over the last ten years to purchase some of his cars. I set up a meeting to look at the challenger.
He has more than just a challenger, His cars sat out at a storage yard by an airport up in the high Rockies. There were as follows, a 69 GTX, 69 Dart GT 318, 70 Swinger 340 4 speed, 70 challenger 383-2 auto, 65 barracuda, 68 rough barracuda, 69 coupe barracuda, about a dozen mopar trucks ranging from 1960-1979. He also has a 70 challenger SE that he keeps at his home.
So, I go to where he now has all of these same cars as well as probably an extra dozen crappy cars.
Take some photos of the exterior of the cars while I wait for him to arrive, late. He's got great stories so we talk for a while. He tells me that he got this challenger in Germany while he was in the service.
He and a buddy of his decided to make a race car out of it. So they stripped the car of lots of items, as well as the fender tag, and cut out the automatic transmission tunnel.
Nothing happened after this for some time.
The car made it's way back from Germany to America and has pretty much sat since then. Unfortunately, there has been deterioration every year it has sat (nothing like most states though).
I look for a broadcast sheet in the back of the front seats, Nothing !! Rear seats are not original.
After talking for hours, I ask him what he wants for the car, No answer.
So, I direct my attention over to a swinger, no title unforunately, cool car. He said he would sale it to me back in the day when I didn't want it, I only wanted the challenger and the gtx.
Again I try to get him to give me a price on either of the cars, the Swinger and the Challenger.
He goes back and forth(with himself) about how much challengers are worth. Then he just says he doesn't want to sell it. I was dumb founded. His family called me there and he met me there to sell me a challenger, then he couldn't do it. Almost a waste of time. At least I got to look at some cars.
What it comes down to, he has too many cars in storage and wants to sell something. I bet I could get the challenger but I would have to have cash in hand. And right now, I can't do it as I am starting on my 71 cuda.
What do you guys think about this car?
so, what cha think?
