I just removed the oil pan off my 1968 date coded 440:
Besides the oil pan gasket that came off, there was also what appears to me, a metal gasket that is also part of a crankshaft splash shield or what some might call, a crankshaft oil scraper (This shield also has a small slot in it to allow the oil pick up tube to run thru it): If this is some sort off oil scraper, this is is also part something I havent seen in awhile, and only have seen in higher revving engines
Is this "splash shield/scraper gasket", something common seen in 440's?: Its not a built motor; This shield/gasket got wrecked removing the oil pan, and since I dont have a hi po engine, Id like to consider running without tif possible, and just reinstall the oil pan with a regular oil pan gasket
