440 oil pan?
« on: March 06, 2011 - 03:21:19 PM »
I need a oil pan for my 440, that fits with a Ebody K frame, what brand do you recommend?

I saw that 440 source has a Hemi 6qt for $99, has any one tried it?

Get the Hemi oil pan. Holds 6 Qts and still keeps good ground clearance.
Prices jump around so look around a little and avoid the chromed one's.

You'll need a windage tray also.

Thanks Mike.

Do you need to get a different oil pick up, or can you modify a 5qt one?

Wow! the price of that one is double the one at 440 source.  :screwy:

Sounds like your doing a new Engine? Is that right?
Hemi pick up I believe is a different one than 440. Not a 100% on that.

Ad says on 440 source...

Because this pan is a specific depth, our oil pickups may require modifications to match this pan. Compare this pan to the P4529884 pan sold by Mopar Performance (Direct Connection) at over $250! Use these with our 101-1010 oil pickups.

Yes, Mike.  I am rebuilding as 440. it came out of a motor home, so the pan will not work.  Thanks for point out the ad.....i misssed that part.

DocMel.

Thanks for the links.  I knew Mildon made pans, I just didn't check there site.

I think either way I go I may as well get a new pick up, as I would hate to have the old one stop working on a new motor.

Thanks Neil!

The complete Milodon kit, pan, gasket, new bolts, dip stick, and baffle, cost over $300.00   :faint: Plus through in $174 for a high volume oil pump.....and it runs just over $500.  :eek2:

I recently got a pan and pickup from 440 Source, the pickup fit fine the only fitment issue was the main studs on the rear main cap. They just barely touched the pan rail. A slight masaging of the rail in two spots and it fits perfectly.  Hope this helps.

The hemi/6pk pan and 6pk oil pick up is under 200 bucks, you need to run the windage tray to have the right depth level for the pick up tube. A Melling M-63hv pump is around 70 bucks Ron.  So everything can be had for under 270.00   The 6pk pans are found used cheap like 75 bucks most of the time.

Thanks Alan,

I have been pricing them out, I don;t mind a few hundred dollars but when they start talking $500 plus just for the oiling system, I choke a little.

I've got a 8qt Moroso on my 440.  Was on the car when we bought it.  Clearance sucks... I hit every bump in the road!
