They're in production, but they're not being produced in order number, and there are holdups for certain models.

They are ramping up production , the wait time should be dropping .
I may do this swap eventually too if I still have the car

I just ordered my Passon 5 speed for my '68 Charger.  I'm #450 and Jamie said he is currently on #35.   :faint:

I just ordered my Passon 5 speed for my '68 Charger.  I'm #450 and Jamie said he is currently on #35.   :faint:

So let me get this right:

So the way I understand this is that Jamie has so far only built 35 of these 855 transmissions and he's back ordered to build 415 units in 9-12 months. If Jamie built 35 units in 24 months; then how many more months would it take at that rate to build 415 more units?

On the reverse math:
If Jamie is at 35 units currently and needs to build 415 units in an average of 10 months; how many will Jamie need to build to meet his quota in a percentage increase vs. where he's at currently?

I'm sure we can extrapolate more statistics if we began digging deeper.

His math on what he's promising isn't adding up is my point.   :2cents:

His latest plan was to get enough parts together (from his suppliers/manufactures) to build 100 to 125 units at a time and then ship them out, instead of building them one or two at a time. He was looking at a 6-9 month lead time, to fulfill the next 125 and that was five months ago.  Last I heard he had some issues with the manufacture of the main shaft, and it has set him back.  He would rather build them right, then supply them with issues.

Yes, waiting sucks. I have been on the list for over two years (#244) and in all realistic estimates, I am still  looking at a 6-12 month wait.

415 units in 12 months would be about 1 every 5 hours if we're talking about 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year all in.
Assuming the manufacturing can keep up.

Is the Price still $4300.00

Maybe he should shop out here for CNC shops.

We've some gigantic CNC manufacturers out here.
One CNC shop near me is 120,000 sq ft.
200 CNC machines, 300+ workers.

Jaimie needs to build these parts near Silicon Valley where CNC mfg'rs are dominant.

He needs some major help in manufacturing or sell the rights to his design to someone that can handle the work load. :2cents:

I work in a similar field to Passon and fully understand having difficulties on the manufacturing side.  If like you say he is having problems with the main shaft it is much more difficult than just having a CNC machine popping out parts.  Judging from the Passon website, he has not been manufacturing main shafts for 4 speeds, just reconditioning used ones.  It is a steep learning curve to get these parts made properly.  You'll have general machining, broaches for splines, heat treating, potentially specific tooling to machine the speedo gear and grinding to all get right.  This one part has probably a couple hundred features which if any one is out of tolerance can potentially cause problems.  And as someone who designs these parts it's also a game of having loose enough specs that the machining costs are kept under control while still getting a usable part.  It can take many batches and years of tweaks to get things sorted.  While the first transmission built and 500th will no doubt "work", there will be development over that time that will improve some aspect of it.  It may not be noticeable and it might be a feature you only appreciate if you rebuild it yourself but no doubt in my mind there will be slight improvements.  A much more complicated part that we started manufacturing back in 2009 (the design alone took me around a year) has undergone 24 revisions since then.

I have no ties to Passon but just thought some of you might appreciate a little insight.  As much as I wanted a 5 speed it looked like he was having issues from the get go, so I opted for the Hemi OD kit and I'm currently building that transmission myself.

My advice is to keep your car running in some manner until you have all the parts in your hand to upgrade.
Good luck y'all!
Dave

It's a great idea.... It's obviously selling itself and much needed in the Mopar crowd.. But I have a hard time seeing why anyone would think it's wise to buy into this shin-dig. Over a year wait, ...maybe? No one really knows? ...unproven, untested, brand new small scale production bound to run into unforeseen issues.... And you want to pay thousands for it????

Noone in their right mind would go into a venture like this unless they felt confident off of a prototype inital tests show it was reliable.

Certainly a selling point he should tell about on it on his website if that's the case.

It's been out on the road for over 3 years now. I've  read it has been tested on drag cars etc... I have not read one report of one breaking yet? I'm sure with the internet we would have heard if one had grenaded? Pretty tough to keep anything hushed up these days thanks' to the web? Passon has a pretty good reputation too as far as I know?  I've never dealt with him personally/money wise but just from what others have said/posted  etc.... I've met him a few times at Carlisle. Hats off to him for trying and then bringing a much needed modern product to market!  :2thumbs:   The Mopar market is very small as compared to GM and Ford so anyone investing in something new just for Mopars is pretty rare/risky venture I'd say.  :2cents:

When he announced this tranny in the works 3 years ago, he didn't really want to, but felt he had to when McCleod announced availability of a tranny for Mopars.

Well...we all know where McCleoud ended up (nothing).  So I bet he probably would have announced product in 2014 when he had it more worked out the development snags.

Hoping he can ramp up production soon.  Would hate for this to be a bust.
