I have thought about the stock late model OD trans but from what I've been reading the aluminum case is not that strong and the gear spread not that great. They weren't meant to go behind a performance motor.  My 440 in not stock but in the 500 hp range and I not sure how I feel about taking my 4 speed out and replacing it with a weaker unit. At least the OD kit will make my trans even stronger. It is an option worth thinking about though.

FYI - I heard that Brewers will build a OD to your liking.  Basically you tell them the ratios you want.

Is this for real ? I didn't know that.

Yes, but it is the 4spd with an OD gear set replacing one of the gears, not an actual 5 spd.

I spoke with Jamie today....he said that transmissions are starting to roll out the door again.   :jumping:

He is contacting people to put down their deposit. He said some people have passed on theirs, so the numbers may move faster than expected.

I am still well down the list, but when the call comes I will be ready.  :money:

Ron,

Looking forward to hearing feedback and seeing pictures when you get it.

My question I have is:

If you have a 3:54 Dana gear, will it still be a good trans/diff gearing combo?
Or would it need to be changed to a 4:10 for it to be optimal performance?

.70 OD ratio w/a 3.54 would be perfect for a big block.  4.10...that's like a tractor for 1st gear.  You'd probably have to shift into 4th at the end of the quarter mile.

I would do 4.10 w/a small block.

I gave up and just ordered the Brewers 4 spd swap package for my Charger.  I might be 6' under by the time the Passion is ready.

I have used & built the A833 OD for years & have yet to actually break one  the ratio spread is wide but no issue for a big block with a wide torque range
 it has 3.09 1st gear ratio & .71 Od ratio with 1:1 in 3rd

Agreed, and with the casual weekend cruiser most of our cars have become, a 3 spd OD is not such a bad thing.

Guess I can look at getting a deal now on the od version when people start swapping them out for the 555.

Mike, my car has 4:10 gears, and I have the Passon A833 OD now. I could live with the A833 OD but it is a little "long in the tooth" for 1, 2, 3rd for my taste. So I want the regular A833 gear spread with an overdrive.  I think with 3:54 you would still have enough torque to power 5sp with no issues.

Funny you should say that.  When I told people that I would sale my A833 od once I got the 5 speed, I have 5 people on the list that want it.  :screwy:

I am happy that I did the swap, as it has allowed me to enjoy my car more while waiting for the 5sp.. And it will allow me to get 80% or more of my money back when I sell it.
