never drove one but I think it will be worth the wait for the passon unit even if I have to swap out the box at a later date   bruce

What don't you like about them? I've never driven one, just curious.
Been thinking about 5-6 speeds but $4500 is more than i want to spend.

Fitting it was a bit of an issue , had to dent the tunnel floor & crlearance the case of the trans a little but mostly it shifted well at lower RPM but seems to lock or bind up shifting at high rpm trying to shift fast

The last one I just installed was far from a "bolt in kit" and from what I understand you CAN NOT power shift them. Might have something to do with the shifter adaptor? I can't really see it be a crappy tranny, because they sell 1000's of them and the Ford guys love them :dunno:
The next one I install will be done right the first time (frame and floor wise) :2cents:

As for Tremec; just installed a Keisler 500 (delivered a year ago)  in my 340 Cuda; went in fine but I did have to cut a little indent in the right side of the hump.  It is a very smooth, quiet tranny and shifts smoothly, but, I do not and will never, "power" shift, or shift at high RPM, so that might be an issue I don't know or care about.

Bought new in '71; I wanted the Challenger but they were $2850; too much $ so I got the 318, 3 speed on the floor, Twister Duster for $2100.

I ain't done yet.

I agree with DPC on my 500 from Kiesler:  I did the auto to 500 swap in my 440 ebody, and you do have to cut the floor, which personally, didn't matter to me.

All of the parts were of top quality down to the transmission mounts.

I also did a muncie M-22, 4 speed to the tremec 500 as well in my 67, BB, Corvette Roadster .  That retrofit did not take any mods at all

But the tech and sales personnel were the worst that I have probably ever encountered in the hobby, in both cases

Myself, again, I don't speed shift anymore, but I do high-rpm shift at times.  But in speed shifting I  dont believe the inherent long throw in the pistol grip that comes with the kit is really something that is realistic anyways.  Thats just me

But in the M-22 to 500 swap I did in my Vette, the short, stock type shifter did allow for speed shifting, and I did not have issues

It is odd that some have high rpm or high rpm shift issues, although 1000's have been sold, and many say they have no like probs

:2thumbs: folks my A855 was $4300 (old price for booking early) and that was it. Your Tremecs might cost you more. Yes it is a long wait but as suggested go for the Passon 4 spd OD while waiting. Then the change is like 2 hours for the 5 speed.

hey Barry, that's the way I went. I just purchased a quick time bell housing,18 spline McLeod twin disk/flywheel package and a 4-speed till my number comes up (which I think will be a while) and then swap out the gear box. only problem I have with right now is the Canadian dollar.  Bruce
