Sidepipes or regular duals?
« on: December 05, 2004 - 04:43:27 PM »
I want some opinions on putting sidepipes on the `69 project. In case some of you don`t know it is going to be a street/strip car done up late 60`s-70`s style.Metalflake paint, slots or Keystone Klassics etc. and I have some sidepipes that came with the plow truck I bought last year and am debating whether to use them or not.I am leaning towards putting them on as they will fit the theme of the car but I`m not sure, what you all think?

Personnally, I don't think I would use them.  The only car I ever liked with that style side pipe was a 70 Vette with 454.  That is my opinion though.

I will say, if you are trying to get a certain era's style or trends, they might be a good desision.  I can see them as a early to mid 70' trend.

If the side pipes are long enough to go to the front of the rear wheel opennings, I think they'd look great on a retro project.  Are you gonna do a tasteful retro or an over the top one?  I'm planning on a tasteful one for the Challenger ( Factory AM/FM radio with a CD player hidden in the trunk a few period stickers in the windows etc. )  As for the Road Runner, it's over the top time.  Old Pioneer 8-Track,  Pioneer wedge speakers on the rear shelf,  Radio Shack TV Tuner from the early 70's,  Stereo 8 reverb,  Fuzzbuster,  Thrush Side Pipes,  Cragar Mags.  Way too much aftermarket crap.  Shoot me an idea on what you're planning and I'll keep an eye open for stuff to use.

It won`t too over the top but it will definitly stick out with Gold Metalflake flames, metalfake steering wheel, bare foot pedals, vintage tach, aluminum slots or Klassics.Being more of a drag car it won`t have any tunes or other add-ons but I`ll plaster it with lots of vintage stickers.I do prefer the Thrush pipes but these were free so that`s what I`m stuck with.If you have any other ideas shoot them to me and do keep your eye out for more 70`s crap.  :eeksmall:

In that case, I think it will go very well with your theme.

I do have a BearFinder radar detector,  or a FuzzBuster II if you're in need of one.  I'm still looking for the Thrush Sidewinders.  I'm going as far as 70's trash on the floor boards,  Burger Chef bags,  Team pop bottles,  Pepsi Lite cans.  I picked up a "Pence Drag Strip" sticker at an auction.  It's a long closed drag strip I used to go to, it'll have a place of honor on the Chally.

Torred, I think the sidepipe idea would definitely get that old school "*****in" look you're after.  If anyone here has ever seen "insert movie title here" with the black futuristic car, there's a red Barracuda with I believe sidepipes on it.  Looked pretty cool if you're into that original hot rodder stuff.
