Does Tor red have any fine metalic in it?
« on: March 08, 2011 - 11:54:03 PM »
Doing a repaint on my 71 Cuda and would like to know if the factory Tor red had any fine metalic in it? The paint on mine does and didn't know if someone added it or if that was original for that color?

If this is correct, "Tor red" is nothing but "Hemi Orange", just Plymouth's color version and My Hemi orange DOES have fine metallic in it..

I have heard Tor red is Hemi Orange and it Has Gold flake in it. I have the 1970 paint chip card but could not see the flake and it looks more red than orange.

Oh yeah, I third that-it has tons of gold flake that really has a popping gold sheen in the direct sunlight and really pops acid orange on overcast days.

I will show a couple pics of my v-2 hemi orange to show the difference.

((((((Under fluorescent lighting.)))))

((((((Overcast day.))))))

((((((((Direct sun, see the gold pop?))))))))

(((((((((Morning sun.))))))))))

(((This pic looks manipulated, but it's not.)))

those are the best pictures I have ever seen that show how it changes with the light.
It does look almost red in dimmer light, but really pops the orange in bright light. Must have a lot to do with the metallic in it.
To me it is THE quintessential mopar muscle impact color, and the only color I would prefer to my limelight.

i have a question, i just started a thread about hemi orange  and/or tor red. i was at the dealer and the new srt challengers come in hemi orange and tor red and the color is different, the hemi orange car is orange and the tor red car was more of a reddish orange,so whats the deal? my car is getting painted and i need to let the body man know what paint to buy.

You can't compare today's paint with the paint back then.

The Tor-red of yesteryear does not match the Tor- red of today. They share the same name, but have different paint codes. The old is V2, the new is PR3.

They still make the old hemi orange.
Mine happens to be 1969 v-2 hemi orange in PPG under (spring colors) in the paint book my body guy used.

I also had it cleared over heavily.
