Ralley Dash Clock Disassembly?
« on: March 09, 2011 - 05:21:42 PM »
Does anyone have any tips on how to take apart a clock on a ralley dash.  Clock is out hands are off but can't quite figure it out from there.

Thanks, big help.

Now, does anyone know the proper way to clean and lubricate the mechanism to get it to run again?  When I wind the clock it will not run enough for the contacts to engage.  Can I spray something like WD40 or Gummout in there and then use a 3 in 1 oil on the pivots or is there something else?

u can try but i dont think it will help,,mine would run for a few hours an quit ,,as u say winding really doesnt do anything as there electric and all the gears are fine but but the feed or coil that opens the contacts is probably bad as mine was,,you can try to oil the gears but in the long run u probably want  to buy the quartz clock that those directions i sent u are for,,its not that hard and cost about $80 and works great  :2cents:

If you are not concerned about the paint or markings (if you're redoing that) brake cleaner to degunk.  If you are concerned, try naptha for that purpose instead.  You have to get it all cleaned up.

The best oil I've found is Micro-Kroil.  Not easy to find.  If you do the naptha cleaning, then there may be sufficient lubrication left to test run the clock but I wouldn't count on it for the long haul.

I got two standard and one rallye clock running using naptha and micro-Kroil.  I _think_ one of them also required cleaning up the contact points, but its been so long I don't remember for certain.
