I was not successful by tapping the valve body with engine running. I was able to tap on the cover end and nothing effected it. It was difficult to do since the wheel cranked pretty quickly to the right and appeared to load the belt when it hit full right lock, as the belt began to squeak. At that point I shut the engine off. Fluid was also pushing up through the pump and leaked quite a bit on the floor. Not sure why.
I decided to remove the valve body and check for free valve operation. Everything seems fine. When I put seals in it a few weeks ago I wasn't quite sure how the pin with spring was installed, so I want to verify this. I think it can only go on one way but if anyone can give me a positive confirmation of the correct way based on the pictures below that would be great. I believe the correct configuration is the third one down. The exploded diagram I used to verify this suggests that this is the proper pin orientation but it was difficult to see how the spring was oriented in the drawing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
