New Suggestion for Site
« on: March 12, 2011 - 06:51:22 AM »
Hey guys,

I have really been thinking about this site and how various cool, important, and needed topics (especially those with pics) disappear after time has gone by.  I know this is sore subject with everyone regardless of which side you are on (management of the site vs. needing the information).  So I am not trying to stir the $#@!......

So here is the suggestion:

So, lets say it is time for the admins to do their cleasing of the site for topics with pics older than a year (actual timeframe I not sure of).   Why couldn't the following happen?
1.  Create a BRAND NEW topic area labled "Topics or Area's scheduled for cleaning"
2.  All targeted topics that fall into the timeframe for cleansing be duplicated under the section in #1 above.
3.  Because this would show up as a new post, everyone would see it since we have the option of "showing all new posts since last visit".  This would serve as notice to everyone.
4.  Members would get a chance to review this section to copy, cut, and paste into their own word document to save and create their own cuda-challenger library on topics that are important to them.

Just a thought.....

I save any picture that I deem important to me as they appear knowing that some day they will be gone.
I suggest all do the same.
Old picture issue would not be a problem if everyone would use a hosting service such as photobucket.

Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

I have a file in the PC with all tha past COTM pictures and when it dumps, I just put them back.    Need to check with the admin as we might have obtained more space and may not need to do a dump for some time.

As an alternative, maybe create a Photobucket/Flickr type account specifically for COTM's of the past. Chuck a link up in the main thread, and save the site some bandwidth.

69ChargerRT is looking into this as we speak.  As a scientist I also hate the idea that data goes away over time.  Maybe the presence of our vendors may just make this possible.....stay tuned.....

For a site this size there's no reason that data and pictures can't be stored forever. Yeah, it may cost a little but it's better than losing valuable information (on a regular basis too). I know Ross was "getting a deal" on the hosting so, surely, there's a better package available.

i think i may have a solution cooking.  it may take just a little bit to implement, but hopefully we wont lose any more pics in the mean time.
