PST 1.03" torsion bars Left and Right
« on: March 12, 2011 - 08:00:29 PM »
I noticed that the PST bars are marked L and R on one end.  This is contrary to the statement that bars greater than 1.0" have no left and right side orientation.  There does seem to be a very slight offset from one end to the other...very slight.

Might help someone.

I have the 1-inch T-bars.  Where are the markings on yours?
I've looked, can't find a "L" or "R"

One end has a number and L or R on it...

For all practical reasons, I would say the offset is virtually zero....I meant to measure today, but, I would guess 5 degrees so that is zero for all practical reasons...but, I went ahead and put the L on the left side.

who made them?

If the bars are clocked 30* there is no left/right.  My Just Suspension 1" are like that.  My Mopar Performance 1.22" are like that.  Smaller MP bars (and OEM) Firm Feel's and PST's are clocked L/R

My Mopar Performance 1.22" are like that.
Does the front end move at all? Must be a pretty stiff ride!

All the mopar bars had identical offsets on sizes over 1". Since there are other players in the market now, they may have changed offsets to create left and right. I'm pretty sure Firm Feel has set up offset clocking on their larger sizes, but I forget the degrees they used. It is less than Mopar used. If they have them marked L and R, then I'd go with their recommended install sides.

I've got 1.22s in my Challenger and yes, it moves. I only weigh 185# and I can bouce the car with no trouble. No I can't bounce it as far as the wimpy .88s the factory stuck in there, but can still move them. The 1.22 bars are only 400# of wheel rate. That is the equivilent of an 800# spring in the GM camp. 400# wheel rates is about mid point in performance handling rates, so stock suspended mopars are somewhat at a disadvantage that way.

In reguards to torsion bar clocking, I called Firm feel and they told me they clock there bars at different amounts depending on the size of the bar.
