Hooking up the cigarette lighter
« on: March 13, 2011 - 02:54:38 PM »
Looking to get my cigarette lighter going, but just wanted to double check the wiring...

From what I can tell, it's simply a matter of connecting a 12v source to the back of the lighter housing, correct?

I believe I have found the original 12v lead, but it's missing the connector. Looks like it should be a loop connector that's just screwed to the back of the lighter housing, correct?

Nothing more complicated than attaching the 12v source to the housing... and the lighter completes the circuit and grounds when it's depressed into the housing... ?

Thanks.

It's not a loop connector, usually it's a slide on, split tubular, insulated L shaped connector. Be very careful about any loop connector because if the edge of it so much as touches the housing, it'll dead short and that's a fire hazard. Most ANY lighter connector would do, so go to the bone yard and grab one. Good luck

On my 73 it's a red wire with a black rubber L that pushes onto the lighter socket.
