Carpet Install Questions
« on: March 20, 2011 - 08:11:29 PM »
Hey guys,

Just finished installing the FatMat in my 71 Chally and I am now ready to start the carpet install.  I have a couple of questions.

1.  When installing the carpet, do you cut the carpet around the gas pedal mounting bracket or take it off and mount it the bracket over the carpet?

2. Just to be sure, the front carpet does overlap the rear carpet right (2 piece carpet)?

Thanks...

1. You should not have to remove the gas pedal...I think I remember a notch in the carpet.
2. My front carpet overlaps the rear & has the edge finished, the rear is not finished.

Bullitt,

Thanks for the info...

I will have to look at the carpet again, I do not recall seeing a notch.

I just looked & there is no notch I just pushed it up tight & it kind of rolls back a bit...could use a notch I guess.

Just checking in to see if you did or were planning to install a carpet pad (over the FatMat) prior to laying down the carpet.

Bullitt,

Thanks for looking! I will do the same.

challengermaniac,

At this point, the only pad I have is the one attached to the foot areas of the carpet.  Should I install a separate pad?
Your thoughts?

I just did this...

Mine had a notch in the front of the carpet, it followed the contour of the steering column. Ie, it went all the way up the firewall up to that point. The pedals stayed in place for the carpet removal / install.

And yes the front carpet does overlap the back piece under the front seats.

Ted,

I bought my carpet from Dante's Interiors, but have not installed it yet.

My seats are being recovered (Legendary Covers & New Foam) and when I pick them up, I am going to ask the upholster for 10+ feet of the pad material he has to put down over the floor FatMat before installing the new carpet.

Should be real nice!

Pretty sure it was "Trim Parts."

Not being able to compare to other brands, I'd give it a thumbs up... as it looks great in the car and I, with zero carpet install experience, was able to get it right.

Fit could be tighter around the tranny hump area, but I didn't used any adhesive and like I said... 1st time install.
