How do rear glass clips work?
« on: March 23, 2011 - 09:15:29 PM »
I'm getting ready to install glass and opened my clip package and found some clips that I do not know how to use.  They were not on the car when I removed the old glass and the instructions in the shop manual are not clear unless you already know how they work.  Do they go as in the picture I took? I've attached some pictures and would appreciate some help.  Thanks, PK

Those were used to located the glass in the correct location on the assembly line.   The factory didn't have time to let the sealer dry...the car had to continue down the line.  You can do away with those spacers if you want.   Just use some sort of shim to locate the glass and let the sealer dry(or use butyl tape) and you should be fine.

Here's a picture of how they install if you still want to reuse them.

Thanks budar, I think I will forgo the metal spacers and save another hole in the car.  Looking through the pieces I removed I found two 1/4' square rubber spacers like is used for the front glass.  So looks like the rear glass had been out before and the metal spacers were not reused.  Thanks a bunch!  PK

Along time ago when butyl was used alot, rubber 'setting blocks' came in a box, which is what you can use instead of the factory setting blocks. But what ever you do, use urethane with urethane primer to install both the windshield and back lite and if you can lay a bead of urethane down good enough, you wont even need any butyl tape. If you cant find any of the rubber setting blocks, give me a snail mail addy and I will send you 2 of them.  :2thumbs:
