adding my avitar
« on: March 26, 2011 - 11:24:09 AM »
Trying to add a selected avatar to my profile.  I have selected an image as a thumbnail from my brother photography website and downloaded it, but I get an error message that is rather vague.  Says its either "too large" or "not an avatar".   What is UP with this website??

It's not the website it's you. Most website have file size restrictions for one thing. Another is that if you didn't re size it, your pictures would show up gigantic.

Go to Imageshack.com. By far the easiest pic file image size changer for you to use.

On the bottom, re size your picture you want to use as an avatar to 320 x 240 on the drop down. Then save it. Then go back to your profile and put it in as your avatar. It should be fine then.

Look at the file type, it needs to be .jpg     You can use most any picture editor such as MS Paint to change the file type & re-size to 140x82 pixels

Another way:

Open picture.
Right click. Drop down appears.

Click on Open with:
Flag shows Microsoft photo editor.
Click on that.

On top menu:
then click on Resize

Click on the drop down menu that says inches.
Click on Pixels.

Change your % till you get it to 400 x 300 approx.

Save it.

thanks topcat.  dont be so quick to blame the website.  there are size restrictions, and as bullit says it has to be in a certain file type.  jpg or gif should work.
