If the color was your choice
« on: March 27, 2011 - 01:18:32 PM »
I've got this 74 challenger that is getting a full frame up resto. Its no longer a numbers matching car. The car is going to be mint when done, the car was originally rallye red, but at this point with everything sand blasted there is nothing on this body, parts etc... anymore that indicated the original color.

So my question is, what color would you choose? It does not need to be a mopar color it can be anything, it doesnt need to be a single color either, you can have dual tone stripes etc... and of course besides just having your color of choice why would it be this color? If you have examples you have seen on other cars that would be cool to see them here too.

The owner of the Challenger is going down to florida in April to see the Barrett Jackson and decide what color he wants too use but I'd like to hear everyones opinions too.

You can see the current project build here.

I like dodge patriot blue pearl or a Lexus Blue and instead of Challenger Hood Blackout Stripe I would do it with a ghost style stripe in sliver on the hood

IMO, black is hard to beat. Black paint, black stripes, if you are going with it, black vinyl roof = amazing looking car.

IMO the 72-4's look better a dark color, specifically the front header panel...

All Black always works

Dark Blues

Dark Silver

I know there are so many but purple is hard to beat. I wanted a plum crazy challenger or cuda for as long as I can remember.

Bullitt, that satin black Challenger looks killer!  :2thumbs: It would get along well with Aaron Beck's 'Cuda

I agree, I would throw in a red side stripe myself, but its deadly. The purple is cool, but agrred its over done. Green, I think that belongs on the cuda. Maybe the new dodge tristage red, burnt orange or that pepsi blue is really eye catchimg. Will post some samples when I get home.

Depends on what the motif is you're going for. Old School or new. Pro-Touring or 2nd Day?

2nd Day, I like a bright yellow, blue's or reds with a T/A stripe sans "340 Six Pack", jacked up in the back a little with an old school wheel like S/S's or Keystones.

Pro-Touring type flavor, I like the bright and metallic colors. Ghost stripes, ghost flames ad other paint tricks. 17's or 18's for wheels.

If Old School is what you're after I'd go bright:  Limelight, Lemon Twist yellow, etc.  These cars stand out like a neon sign in these colors.  Otherwise, that triple black Challenger above looks killer to me.  If I don't stay original I'm still thinking about that for my 73 Barracuda...

 :iagree: X2
I also like the new burnt orange that was on the Chargers and some Dodge trucks a few years ago? I think they called it Go-Mango but it's not the same go-mango from the 70's. looks great with a satin black stripe and/or hood.

While I am partial to the impact colors, I am leaning towards the HOK shimrin purple tri coat. I just love the deep purity of their purple.
With that said, I guess it really only matters what you would like. Are you looking for new idea's? or just general opinion.

You know I was thinking seeing as red was the original color what was wrong with that.

Then I saw the silver with black vinyl car and it made me think of my first Challenger in High school.  It's the only silver car I like. :2thumbs:

I'm not going to offer a color as that decision should be left to you alone. You have to pay for it and also look at it daily. You need to pick a color that you like, NOT others. Just my .02 worth! Whatever you choose will be great.
